📣 Men’sHealth – Awareness Month 2025
🧔♂️💙 This November, Let’s Talk About Men’s Physical Health
At The Park Medical Centre, we’re using Men’s Health Awareness Month to shine a light on the physical health issues that affect men — many of which are preventable or treatable with early action.
From cancer to cardiovascular disease, it’s time to take charge of your health.
🩺 Prostate Cancer: Know the Signs
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. It often develops slowly and may not show symptoms for years. When symptoms do appear, they may include:
•Difficulty starting or stopping urination
•Weak or interrupted urine flow
•Needing to urinate more often, especially at night
•Feeling like your bladder hasn’t fully emptied
•Blood in urine or semen
•Erectile dysfunction
•Lower back or pelvic pain (in advanced cases)
📌 NHS Advice: If you're over 50, or have a family history of prostate cancer, speak to your GP about PSA testing. Early detection saves lives.
🥼 Testicular Cancer: Check Yourself
Testicular cancer tends to affect younger men, especially those aged 15–45. It’s one of the most treatable cancers — if caught early.
🔍 What to Look For:
•A painless lump or swelling in one testicle
•A feeling of heaviness in the sc***um
•Discomfort or dull ache in the groin or lower abdomen
🧠 Self-Check Tips:
Check monthly, ideally after a warm shower.
Gently roll each testicle between your thumb and fingers.
Know what’s normal for you — and report any changes to your GP.
❤️ Other Key Men’s Health Risks
🫀 Heart Disease
Men are more likely to develop heart disease at a younger age.
Risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, poor diet, and lack of exercise.
🍽️ Type 2 Diabetes
Often linked to lifestyle, type 2 diabetes can lead to serious complications if untreated.
Symptoms include fatigue, increased thirst, frequent urination, and slow-healing wounds.
✅ NHS Health Checks
If you're aged 40 to 74 and have no pre-existing conditions, you may be eligible for a free NHS Health Check.
This check assesses your risk of:
•Heart disease
•Stroke
•Type 2 diabetes
•Kidney disease
📞 To Book: Contact the surgery via our online request system or call reception to check your eligibility and arrange an appointment.
