🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Dragons everywhere, it's time to tremble, as we celebrate St George's Day! 🐉

St George's slaying of the scaly-skinned, fire-breathing dragon meant that in the Middle Ages his assistance was often sought against diseases with dermatological manifestation or that were believed to be spread by 'miasmas' (bad air). At MAT, we're all about GOOD air, so if you're got some metaphorical dragons that need slaying your operating theatre, containment laboratory, aseptic suite or cleanroom, please get in touch and brave Sir Adrian and Sir Will will be with you quicker than you can say "a knight's quest".

👷 Our installation team is currently part-way through delivery of new CL3 containment laboratories at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine’s Keppel Street site. Keppel Street has been the institutional home since of LSHTM since 1929 and remains the heart of the School's teaching and research activity.

🔬Working with main contractor Walter Lilly, we have undertaken specialist fit-out of the new CL3 containment laboratories that will support LSHTM’s research into infectious diseases. The photos below show finished rooms prior to second fix and final finishings. The project is due for completion this autumn.

🤔 Interesting fact: The Grade II-listed Keppel Street building is one of the earliest examples of steel frame construction, featuring concrete floor slabs and a classical stone façade that has remained unchanged since 1929.

📌 MAT has just started work on the fit-out of Theatre 12 at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry. The photograph shows installation of the floor screed in preparation for building the operating theatre equipment store.

The project includes full MEP, theatre fit-out including lead lining, ECO-flow Stealth flush-to-ceiling ultra clean ventilation (UCV) system, and associated theatre equipment.

We're also installing a new patient bed lift, future-proofing the facility for planned clinical expansion.

This is a return to the hospital for the MAT team after 2024's fit-out of Theatre 11 and Recovery.

Numerous healthcare buildings constructed before the Asbestos ban in 1999 still contain the material. The British Safety Council estimates that Asbestos remains present in 94% of hospital trusts in England*. Where asbestos-containing materials deteriorate or are disturbed during maintenance, refurbishment or demolition, serious health risks can arise.

Today marks the start of Global Asbestos Awareness Week ( ), an international campaign dedicated to preventing Asbestos exposure, educating the public on dangers, and promoting a global ban.

We recently installed our ECO-Stealth ultraclean ventilation system in an operating theatre that also has the latest intraoperative imaging and diagnostic technology, the flush-to-ceiling ECO-flow Stealth canopy design easily accommodating additional architecture of this type.
