After years of having to take their courage in both hands when crossing a busy road, MPs hurrying to vote were finally able to cross in safety when, on 9 December 1868, the first manually-operated traffic signals showing a red or green light at night were installed outside the Houses of Parliament in London. It would be another 60 years or so before they became a common sight though, with the advent of electric signals.

We’ve applied the same Traffic Light principle to our ECO-flow Stealth ultraclean ventilation (UCV) canopy. Helpful perimeter LED lighting changes colour to indicate canopy status:
🚦Green = UCV mode
🚦Amber = Conventional mode
🚦Red = UCV fault
🚦Blue = HEPA filter dirty

🔊 Our hometown is preparing for the BRIT Awards 2026. The BRITs' 26 art trail features works by a wide range of artists, including this fantastic one by Clare Birtwistle called 'Colour Pop', in which she has used symbols of music and colours of inclusivity to represent the diversity of Manchester and its music scene. The circles represent vinyl and echo the global base of the BRIT Awards statue.

As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and the environment across the business, we recently engaged Tunley Environmental to carry out a detailed lifecycle carbon assessment of our entire range of ECO-flow ultraclean ventilation (UCV) canopies.

The results will inform our research and development going forward, as we work towards using ever more sustainable, energy-efficient and environmentally responsible materials and components.

Another busy week, and we’re currently preparing to hand over the newly refurbished operating theatres at Hexham General Hospital. For this project, MAT was subcontracted to P22 Principal Supply Chain Partner IHP, the main contractor for the redevelopment works for Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

MAT was involved in Phase 3, the final stage of the works, which saw the refurbishment of four existing operating theatres. MAT designed, coordinated, supplied, installed and commissioned four ECO-flow UCV canopies with retractable medical gas and service pendants, Bender operating lamps and theatre control panels, and PACS units.

The project, which won multiple awards at last year’s Constructing Excellence Awards, has enhanced facilities across the hospital to create a modern, welcoming environment for patients, families and staff. In addition to the operating theatres, improvements include updated and reconfigured spaces for Maternity, Dentistry, Oncology and Endoscopy.

🥳 Our Director of Operations, Lee Manfred, is celebrating a fabulous 13 years with Medical Air Technology!

Lee joined Medical Air Technology in 2013, bringing a wealth of experience in fabrication and metalwork. He has developed the warehouse team and taken the whole department forward, creating a space in which the company’s highly engineered and advanced products can be developed and manufactured. He has a particular interest in incorporating the latest technologies into the design and manufacturing process. Lee heads up our facilities management division, MAT FM, and the warehouse team.

The MAT offices have a dusting of snow as they reopen this morning for the start of what we are sure is going to be another fantastic year!

We hope you all had a wonderful time over Christmas and New Year, however you were celebrating - here's to a marvellous 2026 🎆
