The Padel Elbow 💁🏼♀️
Ever felt a sharp ache on the outside of your elbow after a long game? That's "padel elbow" - similar to tennis elbow. It can often be caused by gripping the racket tightly, repetitive swings and a weakness in your shoulder complex.
Prevention tip: Check your grip size, warm up your shoulder and forearms... oh and don't overdo back-to-back sessions... we know it's addictive 😭
* Here at Atherton Physiotherapy we offer hands-on treatment, strengthening programmes and padel injury prevention plans to help reduce the risk of padel elbow.

Pictured below is your Achilles tendon 🤜🏼 🦶
Read more to find out about Tendinopathy 🙌🏼👇🏼
🦶 Tendons are susceptible to injury, and tendinopathy (often called tendinitis or tendinosis) is a common condition characterized by pain, tenderness, and decreased function.
🦶Tendinopathy can result from overuse, repetitive movements, or acute injuries.
🦶Tendon injuries can take a long time to heal due to the limited blood supply and the specific nature of tendon tissue.

👉🏼THE KNEE👈🏼
✍🏼The knee is a complex hinge joint crucial for movement, supporting body weight, and allowing for a wide range of motions like walking, running, and jumping, involving bones, cartilage, ligaments, and muscles.
Now about its structure:
🗣️ The knee joint involves the femur (thigh bone), tibia (shin bone), and patella (kneecap)
🔍 Smooth, elastic cartilage covers the ends of the bones, allowing them to glide smoothly and absorbing shock. Then there is the meniscus 👉🏼Crescent-shaped pads of cartilage between the femur and tibia, acting as shock absorbers and distributing weight.
📚 Ligaments:
Strong, fibrous tissues that connect bones and provide stability to the joint. Collateral ligaments: Medial (MCL) and lateral (LCL) ligaments on the sides of the knee, preventing sideways movement. Cruciate ligaments: Anterior (ACL) and posterior (PCL) ligaments inside the knee, controlling forward and backward movement.
🧠Major muscles like the quadriceps (front of thigh, extending the knee) and hamstrings (back of thigh, flexing the knee) enable movement.

Here you can see a knee pictured 🦵
This male has undergone a Total Knee Replacement 9 weeks ago. He has been struggling getting higher degrees of knee flexion (bending his knee).
Angela has used a mobilisation technique on him, which has allowed his knee to gain 7-10 degrees more knee flexion in just 1 physio session.
Below you can see on image 1- he was measuring 85 degrees (shown on the top right of the image) after his first mobilisation.
On image 2- he is measuring around 91 degrees of knee flexion after his second mobilisation.
From starting the session at 80 degrees and finishing on 91 degrees, we think this is great progress in just 1 session.
Now he has to go away and do his rehabilitation exercises to keep that range of movement and we will see him again next week for more treatment!!
What a success 🙌🏼
