Happy December!

If you're looking for Christmas gifts and have someone you're struggling to buy for, how about the gift of better balance?

Loss of balance can result from reducing strength in pelvic, lower limb, and foot muscles, as well as arising from deterioration in the function of neural structures. Very commonly, both processes play a part in loss of balance in the elderly.

This is why falls are so common in those over 65-years-old.

The good news is that by regularly challenging the sensorimotor system combined with general muscular strengthening, fall risks can be reduced.

The HealthyStep Balance Mat can play a part in both training children for improved locomotive abilities as they grow and in assisting adults in maintaining and improving their balance and coordination to prevent falls.

This balance training, if performed regularly, can play an important part in falls prevention.

With colder weather and darker evenings, you might find yourself sitting more and moving less in Winter.

When we sit for long periods, or if our veins don’t work quite as well as they once did, blood can pool in the feet and ankles making them swell. This is also true if your feet and legs get tired during long periods of exercise.

We can help! Foot Pump socks can be a great assistance in keeping foot swelling to a minimum. The best way to keep healthy is to get up and walk around regularly but Foot Pump socks are the secret friends that are there to help out in the times when that’s not so easy.

What shoes can you wear insoles with?

Most types! Although roomy, round toe-boxed, lace-up shoes are the easiest footwear to add insoles to, especially if the shoe insole/in-sock can be easily lifted out. This is the style we recommend for insole comfort and for casual strolling and hard ground walking. But insoles can be worn with many other types of shoes - even sandals!

Introducing the Balance Clock: an innovative mat that has been designed to challenge and improve balance.

It achieves this by stimulating the nerves and the parts of the brain involved in coordinating lower limb and trunk control, thereby creating a more stable posture through regular use.

What causes foot pain?⁣⁣

Feet can develop pain for many different reasons. The most common causes relate to weak foot and calf muscles, either directly or indirectly. This is because these muscles control the foot’s function and power, protecting the foot from damage as we walk. However, footwear choices can make life hard for feet by overly crushing them, or preventing muscles and joints from working properly.⁣⁣

Strengthening the feet using simple exercises and a specially designed arch contouring insole, such as the ArchAngel, will resolve most foot pains quickly. If the pain still then persists, do visit your podiatrist.⁣
