🌍✨ Happy Zero Discrimination Day! 🌍✨

Today, we celebrate our beautiful diversity and the power of inclusion! Zero Discrimination Day is all about promoting equality, challenging stigma, and ensuring everyone is treated with kindness, respect, and dignity — no matter their background, health, identity, or life experience. 🌈💖

Every story matters. Every voice matters.

Together, we can break barriers, uplift one another, and create communities where no one is judged or left behind.

💜 Harm Reduction Saves Lives
People who use drugs or alcohol deserve compassion — not stigma.
Harm reduction meets people where they are, offering support without judgement, helping reduce risks, and creating safer pathways to health and recovery.

✨ Providing clean equipment
✨ Offering Naloxone and overdose awareness
✨ Supporting safer drinking strategies
✨ Creating non‑judgemental spaces
✨ Building trust, connection, and hope

These tools don’t enable harm — they prevent it, and they keep people alive until they’re ready for the next step.

❤️ Let’s Stand Together
Today, let’s choose:
🌟 Kindness over judgement
🌟 Compassion over criticism
🌟 Understanding over stigma

Everyone deserves the chance to feel safe, supported, and valued — including people who use drugs or alcohol.

Your heritage, your story, your journey — all are worthy of respect. Let’s build a world where everyone is free from discrimination, shame, and fear.

💜 If you or someone you care about needs support, our doors are always open — without judgement.

💛 Self Harm Awareness Day – Sunday 1 March

Theme 2026: Connection is Coping – Finding Support Together
Self-harm can affect anyone. For many, it is a way of coping with overwhelming emotions or experiences. Today aims to increase understanding, reduce stigma, and remind everyone that support is available.

✨ Self-harm is not something to be ashamed of.
It’s a sign that someone is struggling, not a sign of weakness.

“Connection is Coping” – What We Can All Do
✔️ Reach in – check on those you care about
✔️ Reach out – talk to someone you trust
✔️ Remember – no one has to struggle alone

Signs Someone May Need Support
• Feeling self-harm is the only coping method
• Hiding injuries or feeling ashamed
• Increasing risk-taking or injury
• Anxiety, low mood, or overwhelming thoughts

Healthy Coping Alternatives
• Talking to someone you trust
• Creative outlets – art, writing, music
• Physical movement / sport
• Going for a walk or changing environment
• Connecting with safe, supportive people
• Stress-relief tools – journaling, holding an ice cube

🧡 For Parents & Carers
Supporting a child who may be self-harming can be frightening, but you are not alone.

Signs a Child May Be Self-Harming
• Unexplained cuts, burns, or bruises
• Avoiding situations where their body is visible
• Missing sharp objects / bloodstained tissues
• Withdrawal from friends or family
• Low mood, hopelessness, self-blame

How Parents Can Help
• Have gentle conversations during calm moments
• Ask how they’re feeling and what’s worrying them
• Reassure them of your love and lack of judgement
• Encourage talking or writing things down
• Explore safer coping strategies together
• Support gradual change — recovery isn’t linear

If Distress Escalates
• Use grounding techniques (ice cube, breathing, 5 4 3 2 1)
• Reduce access to items used for self-harm
• Seek help from a GP or CAMHS if concerns increase

🌍 World Day of Social Justice | February 20

Today we stand together for fairness, equality, and dignity for all.

Social justice means ensuring that everyone has access to the support they need—including those affected by drug and alcohol use. Substance misuse is often rooted in inequality, stigma, and lack of opportunity. By promoting compassion and understanding, we can help break down barriers and create pathways to recovery.

✅ What can you do?

Challenge stigma—addiction is a health issue, not a moral failing.
Support services that provide care and recovery options.
Advocate for policies that prioritize treatment over punishment.

Together, we can build a society where everyone has the chance to thrive. 💙

🌙✨ Ramadan Mubarak ✨🌙

As the holy month of Ramadan begins, we’d like to extend our warmest wishes to everyone observing.

Ramadan is a time for reflection, compassion, and renewal — a moment to focus on wellbeing, strengthen community, and take gentle steps toward positive change.
For anyone who uses drugs or alcohol, this month can bring different feelings:

🤲 A desire to cut down
🤲 Pressure to stop suddenly
🤲 Worries about withdrawal
🤲 Motivation to make healthier choices

Whatever this month means for you, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

🌙 Harm Reduction During Ramadan
If you're thinking about reducing or taking a break from substances, here are some supportive steps:
✔ Avoid stopping suddenly if you use alcohol or certain drugs regularly — sudden withdrawal can be unsafe.
✔ Reach out for advice before making big changes.
✔ Stay hydrated and nourished when breaking your fast.
✔ Keep naloxone with you if opioids are involved.
✔ Talk to us confidentially if you’re unsure what’s safe for you.

Taking steps to stay safe is completely in the spirit of care, compassion, and wellbeing that Ramadan represents.

🤝 We’re Here to Support You — Confidentially & Without Judgment
If you want to cut down, stay safer, or explore change during Ramadan, CGL Manchester is here to support you.

📞 Call us: 0161 823 6300
🌐 Visit: changegrowlive.org/manchester

You’re not alone. Support is here whenever you need it.

🌙 Ramadan Mubarak from all of us at CGL Manchester.
