‼️STRAY/LOST DOG‼️

We've had a member of the public bring in this beautiful little lady within the morning, who has managed to wander a stray. We'd love to be able to reunite her with owner if possible; as her microchip has no owner details to help get her back home.

We have contacted the dog warden to make them aware that's she's a stray so please do come forward if she's yours.

You can contact us on 0161 566 4686 or reception@petmedicalcentre.co.uk

🐾🐾 MEETING HONEY 🐾🐾

Here is Honey, just 3 days after being spayed — happy, healthy, and full of love! 💛🐾

Spaying your dog is important for many reasons, including her long-term health and well-being.

✅ Health Benefits

Prevents pyometra – a serious, life-threatening uterine infection common in unspayed female dogs.

Reduces cancer risks – greatly lowers the chance of mammary (breast) tumors and completely prevents ovarian and uterine cancers.

Helps prevent hormonal issues that can affect behaviour, mood, and long-term reproductive health.

✅ Behaviour & Safety Benefits
No heat cycles – avoids bleeding, restlessness, and stress every few months.

Less roaming – spayed dogs are less likely to escape or wander off looking for a mate, reducing the risk of accidents.

Calmer temperament in many dogs as hormone fluctuations are reduced.

✅ Community & Welfare Benefits
Prevents unwanted litters, helping reduce the number of dogs ending up in shelters.

Promotes a healthier dog population overall.

🦴 What Is Osteoarthritis in Dogs and Cats?

Osteoarthritis is a chronic, progressive joint disease where the cartilage that cushions joints deteriorates over time. As the cartilage wears down, joints become painful, inflamed, and stiff. It’s one of the most common causes of chronic pain in both dogs and cats.

Common Signs

🐕 Dogs:

Limping or stiffness, especially after rest

Slower to get up or lie down

Reluctance to run, jump, or use stairs

Reduced playfulness

Behavioral changes (irritability)

🐈‍⬛ Cats: (often subtle!)

Hesitation to jump or reduced jump height

Overgrown nails (from less movement)

Avoiding stairs

Changes in grooming habits (less grooming or matted coat)

Hiding or sleeping more

🐾 Why Prevention Is So Important

Osteoarthritis can’t be cured, but early prevention and management can significantly slow its progression and improve quality of life.

1. Joint Damage Is Irreversible
Once cartilage is worn down, the body cannot rebuild it effectively.
Prevention reduces long-term pain and avoids the need for aggressive treatments later.

2. Reduces Pain and Inflammation
Preventive care helps control inflammation early, keeping animals mobile and comfortable for much longer.

3. Improves Mobility and Longevity
Pets with well-managed joints stay active, maintain muscle mass, and enjoy longer, healthier lives.

4. Prevents Secondary Issues
Untreated OA can lead to:
- Weight gain ( from inactivity)
- Muscle atrophy
- Behavioral problems
- Increased of injuries

Cats Hide Pain Very Well

By the time a cat shows clear signs , the disease is often advanced. Preventive strategies help catch issues before damage is severe.

Public Health Notice:

Avian Influenza Confirmed in Trafford
Trafford Council and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have confirmed a case of avian influenza (bird flu) in the Trafford area.

Local authorities are working closely with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) to manage the situation and prevent further spread.

What residents need to know:

The risk to the general public remains very low.

Avian influenza mainly affects birds; however, people should avoid touching dead or visibly sick wild birds.

If you find a dead bird, do not touch it. Report it to DEFRA on 03459 33 55 77.

Keep pets away from wild birds and their droppings.

Poultry and captive bird keepers in the area should follow biosecurity guidance and remain alert for signs of disease.

Further updates and advice will be shared via Trafford Council’s website and social media channels as more information becomes available.
