WGN Members were delighted to receive an Wythenshawe Age Friendly Network Winter Warmer Bag at our community lunch and coffee mornings yesterday. Huge thanks to Wythenshawe Age Friendly Network , and to Groundwork Greater Manchester and FareShare Greater Manchester for donating the fantastic contents.

Also, thanks to all the team, including volunteers, who helped to pack and deliver the bags to older people in the Wythenshawe community (our manager, Samantha, was one of them!).

We had a great day yesterday on our Members' coach trip to Oswaldtwistle Mills Home and Lifestyle ! 🚍 πŸ›οΈ in Lancashire.

A huge thank you to all the Co-op Members who supported us this past year through the Local Community Fund scheme. πŸ™

Funds raised have helped us to subsidise this trip (and our summer trip to Chester) - and one more to go, next year.

Everyone enjoyed a lovely day out and a welcome change of scene!

We took some of our WGN 15th birthday cupcakes to the Friends Forever group to enjoy at St Andrew's Church this afternoon. Some of Members go along each week and really enjoy it.

That's some selection of cakes!

We had a great time yesterday at our '15 years of WGN' (2010 - 2025) community lunch. Our Members were joined by guests from our main funders Manchester City Council , and our current project funders, Wythenshawe Community Housing Group. Also, partners and supporters like FareShare Greater Manchester; Pioneer House High School; Your Housing Group; Manchester Local Care Organisation and others.

It was lovely to celebrate memorable WGN milestones together.

We asked our Members and guests for their favourite WGN memories over the years - or things they like about WGN. Here's just a few of our Members/ volunteers' thoughts to share with you:

"Line dancing, fruit bread!!, arts and crafts, bingo, darts and making memories."

"All nice memories of coming to the Tuesday lunch each week and all the trips we have been taken on. Thanks to all the people for making it special." Margaret

"As a volunteer at WGN's Northenden Social Club lunch, a nice memory (I have lots!!) was a day when a member said to me..."I wish every day was Tuesday." Mary

"Joining WGN was like joining a big family. I remember the warmth of the friendship." Pat

Our Manager, Samantha Days, is part of a volunteer team helping to pack Wythenshawe Age Friendly Network Winter Warmer Bags today.

The bags are full of practical items to help older people to stay warm and well this winter, thanks to Groundwork Greater Manchester 🧣. Also, FareShare Greater Manchester for supplying tea bags, 🍡soups and other items.

A great effort by everyone/ all organisations involved! πŸ‘πŸ§€πŸ΅ 🩡

Iyabo became a WGN Member early in 2024 and said: β€œI’d like to wish Wythenshawe Good Neighbours happy 15th. They have helped to improve my confidence and to have more joy. With people to talk to, I look forward to going out and I’m more independent now...”

Brian joined WGN back in 2020. He uses the Volunteer Drivers Scheme regularly and enjoys our Community Lunch and coffee mornings regularly. His message to us is: β€œHappy birthday to WGN and thank you very much for giving me my freedom back.”

This week, WGN Member, Lana talks about what made our WGN Community Lunch extra special this week:

"This week saw the start of Macmillan Coffee Mornings across the country, so I thought it was an opportunity to host one at our weekly lunch club supported by Wythenshawe Good Neighbours.

Everyone was in good spirits, ready to eat some delicious, homebaked cakes and make some very generous donations to a fantastic cause.

Sadly, we all know someone who has been affected by cancer and some that continue to need Macmillan Nurses.

We held our event in memory of our dear beloved friend *Tess* who was a committed member of WGN and had attended from the very start. We will miss her very, very much.

We had a word search to warm us up and then had a quiz that was mainly about food... followed by a popular raffle with various wonderful prizes.

I felt the afternoon went really well... we were all friends together, enjoying one another's company, surrounded by fun and laughter.

Thank you to everyone for all the donations. The big count is ongoing!!!"
Lana

Well done to Lana and her friends for a fab job for a great cause. The 🧁🧁🧁s were πŸ˜‹.
