What if yoga wasn’t about touching your toes… but how you live your life? ✨
My Monday lunchtime class at and Thursday evenings at are about more than just movement…
Did you know that yoga isn’t just the asana (the postures) - it comes from an ancient framework called the ‘Eight Limbs of Yoga’ (from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali - 2,500 years old!).
And right at the beginning of the Eight Limbs are the ‘Yamas and Niyamas’.
Five of each, not rules, not something to be perfect at. But gentle guidelines to explore how we live and feel our way through these precious lives.
The yamas are about how we show up in the world (ethically, morally, socially) and we practice them in class by:
• choosing kindness over self-criticism (ahimsa - non-violence)
• being honest, without beating ourselves up (satya - truthfulness)
• loosening the grip of comparison and judgement (aparigraha - non-attachment)
The niyamas bring it inward as personal guidelines:
• finding contentment, even in the messy bits (santosha - contentment)
• showing up for yourself when motivation wobbles (tapas - discipline)
• taking moments to pause and notice what’s really going on (svadhyaya - self-study).
In class, this isn’t something I lecture on or we overthink…
It’s something you feel, through grounded movement, breath, and space to just be.
Returning to yourself. Over and over again.
