How long is a piece of string comes to mind ๐Ÿชข

This is a question we get asked numerous times per week at TSR

The honest answer is probably more often than you are doing, BUT not as often as other therapists may tell you

If you are injured or in pain we would always recommend getting it sorted as soon as possible, and you may need more than one treatment session to resolve it

But typically we try to encourage exercise more than we do treatment

You knowโ€ฆTreat the cause not the symptoms ๐Ÿ˜

What we would always suggest is that to stay injury and pain free, it is always worth looking at maintenance work like regular sports massage

Every 4-6 weeks is a general rule if you want to reduce your injury risk, and stop a ni**le becoming an injury ๐Ÿ‘

However every person is individual. Some people need more, some less

A bit of deep diving into this and I find that after warning signs, clients go back to the gym at 100% of what they did before the painโ€ฆ

Studies show that you have a 24.3% chance of a knee injury if you are running regularly and female runners have a higher prevalence rate than male runners (39.7vs34.3%) (Dempster, 2021)

Whether itโ€™s a marathon, a park run or 1km loops at Hyrox, running daily takes itโ€™s toll on the knees

But more often than not we see runners shrug these issues off as a bit of a ni**le ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

What we find in the TSR clinic is what starts as a โ€œni**leโ€ can quickly become an issue that reduces running intensity and frequency

In your teens and 20s you have an abundance of energy and your recovery times are much faster โšก๏ธ

This is because hormones like oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid hormones and human growth hormone are working together to keep you in great shape ๐Ÿ’ช

Physically you are in your optimal decade, and the side benefit of this is you can build muscle faster, your cardiovascular endurance peaks and your workouts are much more effective

BUT, this abundance of energy can lead to a serious negative effectโ€ฆ

OVERTRAINING โŒ

Rest and recovery are equally as important as the amount of exercise you are doing and can help reduce your risk of injury ๐Ÿ‘

โญ๏ธPay attention to form and technique

โญ๏ธOptimise your nutrition to support recovery
