Day Three, 600 miles in and it was the hardest yet. Gail force winds and terrible road conditions. Our third day of sleeping on the floor and now we were climbing through the Welsh valleys racing to get to the 2am ferry only to find out the weather was too bad for it to sail. Everything was starting to feel so sore now and we couldn’t get enough calories in to replace what we had lost. The hills were becoming too dangerous to descend and the road surfaces were turning in to rivers. Fatigue was now starting to become an issue and mistakes were being made. We got lost twice missing the turn on our sat nav. A puncture as well and now we were running late meaning we would need to spend more time than we had planned on big A roads with very little visibility and in the dark. Ten hours in and the event organisers stopped the ride as it was becoming too dangerous. One of the most memorable things about this trip has been how hard it has been. The other most memorable thing is the great comfort you got from the rest of the group who were going through the same thing as you and how lovely it was meeting up with each other at the Rugby club’s through Wales. Experiencing the great kindness from the volunteers at each stop who couldn’t do enough to make you feel at home. With everything that is going on at the moment in the world it has been a great privilege to be involved in such a positive experience and a great reminder of how amazing people are and what a brilliant country we live in.

The Rugby community has really come together this year helping to raise over a million pounds for the we left Leeds Rugby yesterday and was joined by Josh Beaumont from Sale Sharks for the first leg from Wilmslow Rugby club. We stopped at Bridgenorth RFC on our way to sleep the night at Gloucester Rugbys stadium. Another near 200 miles completed and thousands of pounds raised. Thank you so much for all your donations to this very special cause.

On March 10th, our director, Doug Jones, be joining the Doddie Weir Foundation to raise money for research into Motor Neuron Disease (MND).

With Doddie’s Sharks, and 40 other teams, they will cycle 800 miles from Scotland to Dublin in just four days to deliver the match ball for Ireland v Scotland on March 14th.

200 miles a day will be tough
but nothing compared to what those living with MND face every day.

MND has taken too many from the rugby world and there is still no cure.

If you can, please support this incredible cause. Every donation helps fund vital research.

We’ll also be stopping at rugby clubs along the route, including Wilmslow RFC on March 12th as we ride from Leeds to Gloucester – come and say hello if you’re nearby!

The rugby community is always strongest when it comes together.

If you can, please donate. Thank you 💙

Our Story

Altius means ‘Higher’ in latin and our aim is to offer the highest standard of healthcare in the country................................... Your Health Is Our Mission!

Doug Jones, founder and owner of Altius Healthcare worked for 17 years as a head physiotherapist for a number of professional rugby clubs including Sale Sharks, London Wasps and England Rugby.

During this time he was at the sharp end of seeing some of the most challenging injuries due to the intense nature of Rugby as a contact, collision sport.

At the height of his career in October 2015 Doug was to receive devastating news in relation to his own health. Doug had been diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma - a 3 cm benign brain tumour - that was life threatening.
