A34 / Gatley Lights Update

We've just received this update from Cadent, from Trevor Lubbock, Customer Operations Area Manager, regarding the A34 closure:

“Firstly, I want to say thank you to everyone for their ongoing patience as we have been dealing with the emergency work to this gas main.

“I am pleased to say that last night – in difficult weather conditions, and after a weekend of working day and night shifts – my engineers completed a challenging piece of work which has repaired the pipe.

“We have started reinstatement, to get the road safe for traffic. This involves using a large amount of concrete that will take some time to cure – 24 to 48 hours – and then the surface layers need to be applied and also given time to set firm. Our plan is to have the junction fully reopen to traffic as soon as it is safe to do so, but no later than Friday.

“After that, we still have some associated work to complete, but this is mainly in the footpaths on Gatley Road. We may need to occupy one lane for periods of time, but we will limit this to off-peak hours. Both roads, A34 Kingsway and A560 Gatley Road, will remain open.

“This has been an incredibly challenging job, at one of the busiest road junctions in the area. I appreciate it has been disruptive and my team has been working as fast as we can to complete this work, which is all to ensure safety."

Please note this update is provided to us by Cadent, please keep a look out on the Cadent website in case of any changes.

Staying safe doesn’t mean you have to stay inside, here are some tips to manage wet leaves and slippery paths:

Check the weather forecast-
Try to walk after it has stopped raining and had a chance for the surfaces to dry. Choose flat routes with good paths. Avoid paths under heavy tree cover as the leaves will stay damp for longer.

Wear supportive shoes with a good sole-
An ankle boot or sturdier shoe will help your balance. A good tread in the sole of the shoes will help with grip.

Check you walking aids-
Make sure your rollator frame brakes are tightened and in good condition. Check the ferrule of your stick, crutch or frame and ensure there is enough tread on it. If not go into your local mobility shop and purchase a replacement. Walk at a steady pace.

Keep your hands free for balance-
Use a shoulder backpack or cross body bag to ensure that you are able to use your hands if needed.

Scan the path of hazards to avoid and take smaller steps-
Keep aware of your path and surrounds and maintain a cautious pace.

Ask for help if you need it-
Ask a carer or loved one to join you for your stroll.

With the right preparation you can stay active in these autumn months.

Thanks Ross for running our staff in-service training this week, the training was focused on electrical stimulation, a therapeutic technique that uses controlled electrical impulses to activate motor nerves, producing muscle contractions, using electrodes placed on the skin over targeted muscles.

In-service training keeps us updated with the latest techniques. Continuous learning doesn’t just boost professional growth, it means safer, smarter, and more effective care for every patient.

NP had a great day at UKABIF summit on Monday. It was full of inspirational and thought provoking discussions about Brain Injury and was amazing to see so many different professionals who share the drive to support people who have had a brain injury. It was good to hear from Ashley Dalton MP and under- secretary of state for public health about her passion for services to better support people with Brain Injury and long term neurological conditions.
At Neurological Physiotherapy we are passionate about supporting people with brain injury. We offer bespoke services for individuals that are goal and function orientated and outcome measure led.
