What Are Trigger Points? 🤔

Trigger points - also commonly known as muscle knots - are tight, sensitive areas that form in muscle tissue, often after overuse, injury, poor posture, or stress. These small contraction knots, as shown in the diagram, can create pain, limit your movement, and even cause discomfort to radiate to other parts of your body (known as referred pain).

🚩What do they feel like?
Trigger points usually feel like tender lumps or taut bands within your muscles. They can cause local aches, reduce flexibility, and sometimes create headaches or referred pain elsewhere.

🚩What if trigger points are left untreated?
If not addressed, trigger points can lead to ongoing pain, reduced range of motion, muscle weakness, and even compensatory issues in other areas of the body. Over time, untreated muscle knots may contribute to chronic pain conditions and impact your overall quality of life.

🚩How do I treat them as a sports therapist?
I use a combination of trigger point therapy, soft tissue mobilisation, and soft tissue release techniques. This approach helps me effectively locate and deactivate muscle knots, restore normal muscle function, relieve pain, and improve your overall mobility.

With consistent sports therapy sessions, my client’s goal finally came true! ✨

BEFORE & AFTER Massage Session

Client was experiencing muscle tension, cramps and limited mobility in their arm, leading to pain in their biceps and neck. Everything was tight and stiff. Additionally, our client complained of uneven shoulders, which can cause muscle imbalances that affect the entire body. When one side of the body is tighter or weaker than the other, it can lead to poor posture, uneven movement patterns, and compensation by other muscles, resulting in pain and stiffness.

But after massage session, the tension was released and the pain was alleviated and most importantly client is happy now with even shoulders!
