For as long as I can remember, I’ve LOVED cooking. Not just cooking for myself, but cooking for others too🥰 The immediate postpartum period is such a delicate time - when your body has been through such a physical and energetically demanding event - being properly nourished during this time is SO important to your recovery, and can set you up to bloom in motherhood🌸 Soon I will be offering a postpartum meal delivery service to new mamas across the Manchester area, and am offering an early bird beta price whilst I find my feet. ✨ Birth is not just physical - it's deeply emotional, intuitive, and sacred. ✨

Last week I launched a new online 1:1 ‘pay as you please’ service, designed to help women who want to feel empowered, informed, and deeply connected to their bodies and the birth process — whether you're pregnant now or simply planting seeds for the future🌸

🌿 These sessions are zero financial obligation, a ‘pay what you want’ or not at all offer. An opportunity for you to receive open-hearted support, wherever you are in your pregnancy, or even preconception journey🌷

The truth is that doulas cost money💸💸

They’re an investment.

They’re not exactly cheap.

And whilst I know that doulas are truly INVALUABLE, the reality is that sometimes they’re just out of financial reach for people.

And it saddens me that women who would love a doula aren’t always able to access one💗

If I could provide free doula pregnancy + birth support for everyone then I absolutely would…

But the reality is that this is a business I aspire to grow, and I gotta make money some way to be able to live🤠

So for now, I have created these 60 minute zero financial obligation online support sessions🥰 there’s so much we can cover during them, and I can’t wait to help empower women with the knowledge, tools, and confidence for birth!🌸

Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending the day learning about all things birth biomechanics from Shellie from The Serenity Doula 🌀

It was such an insightful day and further reminded me of, and rooted me in the fact that our bodies are SO intelligent and we truly are MADE to birth.

Here are a few key takeaways from the top of my head that I took away from today… ⤵️ (The last one may not be what you want to hear🫣)

🌸 When a woman is left to follow her instincts,

🌸 The baby is NOT passive in labour - you and your baby are a team working together to navigate the birth process… And working together is when the magic happens!

🌸 Freedom of movement makes ALL the difference in labour

🌸 When you’re rooted in TRUST in a woman’s body, the process of birth, and have NO FEAR around birth =

🌸 Cervical dilation is not a clear indicator to when you will birth your baby. Being in tune with your body and baby is far more helpful than a number gauged by someone shoving their fingers up your vag!na

🌸 It’s impossible to have a fully undisturbed labour when birthing inside the hospital

I can’t wait to reflect and read over my notes from today, hopefully it won’t be long before I can support someone with this wisdom!🥰🩷

For so long I avoided creating a website for my doula business - I’m not the best with technology so would continue to procrastinate and avoid setting one up😅

But this week I had a burst of energy and inspiration and I’m super proud to say I’ve officially got my own website up and running - designed all by me🥰🌸

I’d appreciate anyone checking it out and if you could share it far and wide to anyone who may be interested in my services🫶🏼 (I plan to offer more online services and support in the form of workshops and digital guides to help women further afield who may not be able to have in person support💓)

‘How can you be a doula if you’ve never given birth yourself?’

Believe it or not, experiencing pregnancy and birth isn’t a prerequisite for becoming a doula! Even formal qualifications technically aren’t a requirement to become a doula either✨ (Though a training course can be a great way to build professional development, deepen understanding, and gain credibility)

Besides training, personal qualities are important to be a good doula, including⤵️

🌸 the ability to hold a non judgemental safe space
🌸 the ability to remain calm and grounded
🌸 being compassionate and nurturing
🌸 the ability to advocate
🌸 warmth

And without tooting my own horn, I can confidently say I have these qualities and more🥰

Whilst I’m not able to fully empathise with your position because I haven’t yet been through pregnancy and birth myself, I don’t see this as a negative... In fact, not having previous experience means I have zero biases or experiences that may have the potential for me to subconsciously project opinions due to experience… (Though I know excellent doulas wouldn’t allow their experience to impact how they support a client!)

I see it that I’m a ‘fresh slate’ - I deeply trust the birth process BEFORE even going through the birth process myself💕 and holding TRUST in your body and the process of birth is arguably one of the most important things you can have when preparing for birth🌸

Great words from Dr Rachel
Reed, that I heard on the Midwives Cauldron podcast…

It’s a reminder of the power of connecting with your body and listening to your intuition, as well as the importance of having the freedom of movement during birth!

What’s most important is moving into a position that feels good for YOU - and having the right supportive people and environment to allow this🥰

Whilst I believe in the power of a woman’s instinct and being in tune with her body to birth, a good general idea to remember for positioning is UFO🛸

This stands for Upright, Forward and Open… The combination of Upright to use gravity, Forward to open the pelvis, and Open to naturally open the body more - evidence shows this can create up to 28% more space in your pelvis when positioned this way!

The medicalisation of birth has led the emotional, spiritual, and physical significance of birth to get lost… 😢

And it has led to far too many women experiencing birth related trauma.

It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me when I hear birth stories in which the woman’s wishes, voice and autonomy is ultimately disregarded - during the most energetically open and vulnerable state that is birth… ✨

All I wish for is every woman to have the birth of her dreams - no matter how that looks - and that she feels in control, feels heard, and feels respected🌸
