If you’ve ever wondered what actually happens to your skin without SPF over time… it’s not always obvious straight away.

At first, nothing dramatic happens.

Your skin might still look the same, and it’s easy to think it’s not making much difference.
But underneath the surface, things start to change.

Daily UV exposure gradually breaks down collagen and elastin, which are what keep your skin firm and supported. Over time, this can lead to the skin looking thinner, less bouncy, and more prone to fine lines.

Pigmentation is another big one.

Without protection, UV exposure can trigger and worsen dark spots, uneven skin tone, and that overall “patchy” look that many people start to notice as they get older.
And then there’s texture.

Skin that isn’t protected consistently can start to look rougher, duller, and less even, especially in natural light.

The difficult part is that this doesn’t happen overnight.

It builds up slowly, which is why so many people don’t connect the two until later.

SPF isn’t about being perfect or never seeing the sun.

It’s about protecting your skin consistently so the results you’re investing in—whether that’s skincare or treatments actually last.

Because over time, the difference between protected skin and unprotected skin becomes very noticeable.

Imagine going on holiday without needing foundation.

Not because your makeup is better…
But because your skin actually looks good on its own.

No heavy coverage.
No layering products in the heat.
No worrying about how your skin looks in natural light.

That kind of confidence doesn’t come from a last-minute fix. It comes from improving your skin properly, over time.

For most people, it’s a combination of:
1️⃣ Supporting hydration and skin quality from within (treatments like Profhilo and skin boosters can help with this)
2️⃣ Softening lines and helping the skin look more relaxed and refreshed (through subtle anti-wrinkle treatments)
3️⃣ Strengthening overall skin health so it looks smoother, brighter, and more even

It’s not about changing your face.
It’s about your skin looking healthier, so you feel more confident without needing to cover it.

Because when your skin is balanced, hydrated, and supported properly…
You don’t feel the need to hide it.
If that’s your goal going into summer, it always starts with understanding what your skin actually needs and creating a plan that works for you.

This is one of the most common things I hear, especially as we move into the warmer months, and honestly, it’s not entirely true.

You absolutely can have Chemical Peels in summer, but it isn’t as simple as a yes or no answer.

It really depends on the type of peel being used, your skin, and your lifestyle.

Not all peels are strong or aggressive. Some are specifically designed to be gentle, with little to no downtime, and can be used safely during sunnier months when done correctly.

The key is choosing the right peel and applying it in a controlled, professional way.

Where things can go wrong is when treatments are done too aggressively or too close to sun exposure without proper guidance. Your skin is more sensitive after a peel, so protecting it properly is essential.

That means consistent SPF, avoiding excessive sun exposure, and following the right aftercare.

In many cases, lighter, medical-grade peels can actually be a great option before summer. They can help to brighten the skin, improve texture, and give you a fresher, more even appearance especially in natural light.

The real issue isn’t the season.

It’s doing the wrong treatment at the wrong time, or without a proper plan in place.

That’s why I always assess your skin first and tailor everything to you, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

If you’re thinking about improving your skin before summer but aren’t sure what’s safe or suitable, starting with a consultation is always the best place to begin.

4 weeks before your holiday is all about prepping smart and not overdoing it.

Avoid deeper peels and laser treatments during this time, as they can leave your skin more sensitive and at higher risk of sun damage while you’re away.
Instead, focus on gentle, skin loving treatments, think light or enzymatic peels to boost your glow, alongside hydrating options like skin boosters or our Pro Facial.

The goal? Calm, radiant, well hydrated skin that’s ready to shine on holiday.

We’re so used to quick fixes and before-and-after culture that it’s easy to assume everything can be sorted in a single appointment.

In reality, most skin concerns develop over time, which means they need a more considered, layered approach.

1️⃣ Texture that never feels smooth
Roughness, visible pores and uneven tone are usually linked to slow cell turnover and long-term skin damage. This improves gradually with the right treatments and consistent skincare, not one-off appointments.

2️⃣ Pigmentation that keeps coming back
Pigment sits deeper in the skin and is constantly triggered by UV and heat. Even when we treat it, it requires ongoing management to keep it under control.

3️⃣ Fine lines that keep returning
Lines are not just about movement. They’re also influenced by collagen loss and skin quality, which is why a longer-term plan works better than chasing each line individually.

4️⃣ Skin laxity and early sagging
When skin starts to feel looser, it’s usually due to structural changes over time. This is something we improve gradually by supporting collagen and tissue, not instantly.

5️⃣ Dull, tired-looking skin
That “tired” look is rarely just surface level. It’s often linked to hydration, barrier health and how the skin is functioning overall, which takes consistency to improve.

Good results don’t come from doing everything at once.

They come from doing the right things, in the right order, over time.

The biggest mistake I see every April before summer holidays.

Patients leaving it too late.
Every year, I have patients coming in April or May wanting clearer skin, smoother texture, less pigmentation or just to look more refreshed before they go away… but by that point, we’re already working against the clock.

Most results in aesthetics don’t happen instantly. Skin needs time to renew, collagen needs time to build, and treatments need time to settle properly. When everything is left until the last minute, we either have to limit what we do or accept that results won’t be at their best in time.

There’s also the added factor of sun exposure. As we move closer to summer, certain treatments become less suitable, and the risk of pigmentation or sensitivity increases if timing isn’t managed properly.

This is why planning matters so much.

The patients who see the best results for their holidays are the ones who start earlier, take a more structured approach and allow their skin to improve gradually rather than trying to rush it in a few weeks.

Good skin before summer is never about one quick appointment. It’s about what you did in the months leading up to it.

Skincare is not an optional extra. It is part of your treatment plan.

Alumier is a medical-grade skincare range, which means the formulations are designed with clinically active ingredients at levels that actually make a difference to how your skin functions and behaves.

Unlike high street products, these are not designed to be one-size-fits-all. Each product is selected based on your skin type, your concerns, and how your skin is currently behaving, so everything works together in a structured way.

When used consistently, the right skincare supports collagen production, improves hydration, strengthens the skin barrier and helps manage concerns like pigmentation, acne and early ageing.

It also allows your in-clinic treatments to work more effectively and last longer, which is why I place so much emphasis on getting this part right.

If you’re not sure what your skin actually needs or want to build a routine that works properly book a consultation and lets talk throughh it.
