The MenB vaccine was introduced in 2015 to protect infants against infection. If your child is under the age of 2 and hasn't received the Men B vaccination we would advise they receive this. The Men B vaccination is given to babies at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 1 year only. The NHS guidance does not allow us to vaccinate anyone over the age of 2.
The MenACWY vaccination is routinely offered to teenagers, however, it protects against different strains of the Meningococcal bacteria than the MenB vaccine.
Vaccinations does not always completely prevent infection, however, it can significantly reduce the likelihood of developing symptoms or result in a milder course of illness.
