This comes up more often than you’d think, especially at markets.

I was chatting to a customer recently who asked if I stocked Rose essential oil. When I said I don’t, simply because it’s incredibly expensive, she told me she’d found it online for a very reasonable price.

❗️ This is where it’s worth being careful.

True Rose essential oil, known as Rose Otto (Rosa damascena), requires around 30,000 - 50,000 fresh rose petals to produce just 10ml, which is why genuine Rose Otto costs well over £100 for a 10 ml bottle.

Another common oil is Rose Absolute, which isn’t a true essential oil in aromatherapy terms but is widely used in perfumery and is still a very expensive material.

If you’re seeing “Rose essential oil” sold cheaply, it’s usually one of three things:

👉🏻 5% Rose oil, diluted in a carrier oil
👉🏻 A synthetic fragrance oil
👉🏻 A reconstructed aroma made from other essential oils to mimic the scent

⚠️ Rose essential oils are often missold or mislabelled, and they are not the same as pure Rose Otto.

The same applies to other precious oils like Sandalwood, Jasmine, and Egyptian Neroli. They’re rare, labour-intensive to produce, and their price reflects that.

Transparency matters. Knowing what you’re buying matters.

👀 The part nobody sees…

If you've visited my stall recently, you may have sampled a brand new blend I've been creating behind the scenes.

You've all loved it so far, and I know some of you are waiting patiently for it ❤️

Well, it's nearly ready 🤗

The beautiful part of creating a blend is watching the oils swirl together and the scent take shape.

But there’s another side you don’t usually see.

Every blend has to go through CLP safety calculations and regulatory checks before it can ever reach the shelves.

After teaching myself CLP and chemical calculations over the years, I do all of this myself, which takes time.

This spreadsheet is part of that process, breaking down the individual components within each essential oil and calculating how they contribute to the final blend.

Not the most glamorous part of aromatherapy, but an important one.

✨️ Watch this space… Restore is coming 👀

A Scent Story • Spring 🌱

Early morning sun streams through the kitchen window, the crisp scent of lemons mingling with fresh air as you throw open the doors. Whispers of lavender from clean linens drying in the breeze, while rosemary evokes the first tender shoots of plants emerging from the earth.

🍋 A fragrance that breathes new life into your home, inspiring a sense of renewal with every inhale.

Spring is available as a reed diffuser and essential oil blend on my website 🌿 www.libsaromatherapy.co.uk

Are essential oils safe to consume?

I have been asked a few times now whether my essential oils can be taken oraly.

While some of the essential oils I stock are approved for use as food flavourings in very small amounts, that doesn’t mean I recommend consuming essential oils.

Even when an oil meets food regulations, internal use requires knowledge, precision, and context. It isn’t something I advise at all.

For me, aromatherapy is about scent and mindful topical use for wellbeing, not ingestion.

What is aromatherapy, really?

The word gets misused everywhere now.

But true aromatherapy has always been rooted in one thing 🌸 pure plant essential oils.

If a product doesn’t contain essential oils, it's not aromatherapy.

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts, distilled or cold pressed directly from nature. Their natural aromatic compounds are what give each oil its characteristic scent and therapeutic properties.

This distinction matters if you’re choosing products intentionally.

If you’d like to understand more about where aromatherapy began and how it’s traditionally used, I’ve written a full guide on the blog. 🔗 Go to the links in my bio to read.

Someone asked me the other day: “Why are they called essential oils?”

Great question! They’re called 'essential', not because they’re vital to survival, but because they carry the essence of the plant, its pure fragrance, distilled and bottled. 🌱

In essence, that little bottle holds the plant’s aromatic soul in its most concentrated form! ✨

At Lib’s Aromatherapy, every product is made with 100% pure essential oils, so you get the true aroma and therapy of nature in every smell, touch, and moment. 🌸

🌸 Essential oils are often talked about, but rarely explained properly.

At its simplest, an essential oil is the concentrated aromatic extract of a plant, captured through steam distillation or cold pressing.

It’s the plant’s actual fragrance, bottled 💧

My Story

Hi there,

I’m Libby and I am the face behind the brand. I specialise in natural fragrances for the home and for people who love to fill their space with beautiful aromas.

I offer natural scented candles, wax melts, reed diffusers and more. I make all of these home fragrances in my own kitchen, in the gorgeous Wiltshire countryside where I live with my fiancé and two cockatiels.

I originally grew up as an only child in Burnham, Buckinghamshire with my parents and two cats.
