It was established in the former Union Workhouse in 1930 and took children from all over Wiltshire. In the 1950s the Matron was Mrs Harral and the Medical Officer was Dr. Tim Maurice followed by Dr. Dick Maurice. was Dr. Dick (a dynasty of Maurices in Marlborough have all been known by their Christian names) whose major interest was the Children's Hospital and who attended on Saturday or Sunday afternoons to meet visiting parents. The hospital had closed by 1994 and has now been converted into flats, with houses built in the grounds. There is a book by Dick Maurice - The Marlborough Doctors, Alan Sutton Publishing, 1994, ISBN 0 07509 0831 9 - that contains several references to the Children's Hospital. Evening all,

Just reading some of the notifications received today.
I havnt been as active as if hoped since starting the page - due to personal issues, which hopefully are now virtually sorted - till the next ones lol.

The page was started to find other patients, staff & teachers that were here & to share experiences, memories of the ones that are sadly no longer here to share in these.

I was aware of one 'incident' involving a senior member of nursing staff, but the abuse that has come to light since starting this page, I truly admit I had no knowledge of until contacted here.
My feelings are, that we remain supportive to all fellow inmates & are there to help as & when able.
In regards to details of names etc, I strongly feel that we should refrain from stating in posts - as this may interfere with any investigations that happen as a result of the abuse being reported to the relevant authorities.

Please feel free to personal message me directly.
