Diabetes can damage the nerves in your feet, making it difficult to feel pain. This can lead to problems such as blisters, ulcers, and infections. If these problems are not treated, they could eventually worsen and can lead to amputation.

Here are some tips to prevent foot problems if you have diabetes:

* Check your feet every day for any problems.
* Wear shoes that fit well and provide good support.
* Avoid going barefoot.
* Trim your toenails straight across.
* Moisturize your feet regularly.

If you have any problems with your feet, see a podiatrist! (Mayfield Podiatry)

Here are steps on how to cut your toenails properly:

* Soak your feet in warm water for at least 10 minutes to soften your nails. This will make it easier to cut them without tearing or breaking them.
* Use a nail clipper to cut your toenails straight across. Avoid cutting them too short, as this can lead to ingrown toenails.
* Use an emery board to smooth the edges of your toenails. This will help prevent them from catching on things and causing pain.
* Apply a thin layer of moisturizer to your feet after you cut your toenails. This will help keep your skin healthy and prevent dryness.

Here are some tips to avoid common mistakes when cutting your toenails:

* Don't cut your toenails too short. This can lead to ingrown toenails.
* Don't round the corners of your toenails. This can also lead to ingrown toenails.
* Don't use a dull nail clipper. This can cause your nails to tear and break.
* Don't cut your toenails if they are infected. This can spread the infection to other parts of your body.

If you have any problems with your toenails, such as painful or ingrown toenails or fungus, it is important to see a podiatrist (Mayfield Podiatry) .

Foot care is important for everyone, but it is especially important for older adults and people with diabetes. Good foot care can help prevent problems such as blisters, ingrown toenails, and athlete's foot. It can also help prevent more serious problems, such as foot ulcers and amputations. Here are some tips for good foot care:

* Wash your feet daily with soap and water.
* Dry your feet thoroughly, especially between your toes.
* Inspect your feet for any problems, such as cuts, blisters, or redness.
* Trim your toenails straight across.

And of course, if you have any problems with your feet, see a podiatrist!

Whether there’s an office Christmas party or get-together with family on the horizon, you’re probably looking forward to letting your hair down over the next few weeks. The party season is full of fun, but while you’re throwing funky shapes on the dance floor, do spare a thought for your feet, as December can be a testing time for them.

Simply keep your nails cut, have the hard skin removed and make sure to moisturise!

Preparation is the key, which Mayfield Podiatry can help with, but we can also help out when those blisters appear after the party!

Cream to give you soft and skily smooth skin - is it worth the time? 😀

Why would you need to moisturise your feet? Which types are best? Are there any risks? With age your skin begins to lose elasticity, flexibility, thickness, and it’s ability to retain moisture. It’s not just age, but also if you smoke, drink alcohol, eat a poor diet, and spend too much time in t...
