The biggest mistakes I see women in their 40s making with their skin...
There’s a real shift that happens in your 40s. The changes might start quietly - a bit of dryness, a dullness that wasn’t there before, or products that suddenly feel too harsh. But what I often see isn’t that women are “doing it wrong.” It’s that they’re still caring for their skin as if it hasn’t changed.
1. Treating your skin the same way you did in your 30s
Your skin in your 40s is navigating hormonal changes, collagen loss, and slower cellular renewal. What worked five years ago might now be too active, too stripping, or simply not enough. This is the time to evolve your routine - to focus less on control and more on support. Think hydration, antioxidants, and barrier repair before anything else.
2. Overloading on actives
I see this a lot - layering retinol, acids, and brightening serums, chasing quick results. But often, this leads to inflammation, sensitivity, and barrier damage, especially when the skin is already under hormonal stress. More isn’t more. The best results come from balance and giving the skin space to heal, rebuild, and thrive.
3. Ignoring the deeper connection
Stress, sleep, nutrition and emotional wellbeing all start to show on the skin at this stage of life. I always say: your skin doesn’t misbehave, it communicates. If you’re noticing changes, it’s not a sign of failure — it’s feedback. Listening to what your skin is trying to tell you is where true progress begins.
The truth?
Skin in your 40s doesn’t need to be “fixed.” It needs to be understood, respected, and supported differently. When you work with your skin instead of against it, that’s when everything changes - the glow, the texture, and of course, the confidence.
