Here's a great video about how neural pathways in the brain cause chronic pain. This is called neuroplastic pain and it can present as back pain, neck pain, migraines, IBS, dizziness, fibromyalgia amongst many other symptoms. Many people have one or more of these symptoms. The good news is that our brain is neuroplastic, new healthy helpful neural pathways can be made through pain reprocessing therapy. I am passionate about helping people with chronic pain using pain reprocessing therapy in combination with movement and health coaching. This is a wonderful success story (from SIRPA) of someone who has recovered from chronic severe sciatica using this mind-body approach. Who is seated/standing pilates
for?

Anyone who wants to do pilates but struggles to get down to the floor or lying flat. It's also ideal for anyone who wants to work on balance, falls prevention and functional strength.

What does the class involve?

The class will start in standing but a chair is available to hold on to. We will do 15 minutes in standing and then move to seated exercises. We may use pilates equipment such as a circle or ova ball, or a theraband. We will then do cool down stretches in sitting. Everyone works at their own pace and you can rest as much as you need.

How long is the class?

45 minutes which is ideal for those that struggle with endurance and find an hour too long.

Is there disabled access?

Yes there is ramped access to the hall at Sandy Lane.

Who runs the class?

Emily Ortu is a physiotherapist with 20 years of experience, she is also a clinical pilates instructor with 12 years experience and a qualified Nutrition and Health Coach so you are in safe hands!

What do I need to bring?

Just yourself and a drink!
