Baby brains are hungry for language. New parents are urged to talk to their babies to help their minds develop properly. Now, a group of UConn researchers have shown that “talking” doesn’t just mean speech—sign language exposure is equally as nourishing.

I love this post by Raising Little Talkers so much!

We need to stop saying things like “my child is refusing to talk” because the vast majority of the time this is not true. If kids CAN talk, and they understand the social use of words- they will talk because talking is the easiest form of communication in speaking families!

Useful to see a simple representation of a complex condition

Autism is a constellation of characteristics, and those who receive the diagnosis have differences in 1️⃣ language, 2️⃣ socialization, and 3️⃣ repetitive actions/specific interests/sensory differences. BUT what people THINK those differences are and what they actually ARE are two very different things. Autism is a huge spectrum and can present in many different - and often unexpected- ways!
