Let's break it down:
π±On average, people spend 2 hours on social media a day (Statista, 2022). π
π±Social media can enhance mental wellbeing as a facilitator for social connections and peer support (Naslund et al., 2020). π«
π± Rewarding social interactions and humor provided by social media helped reduce stress during the COVID-19 pandemic (Marciano et al., 2022). π
π±Another study have found that social media may lead to body image dissatisfaction (Harrier et al., 2023). π₯Ί
π± Excessive use increases level of loneliness, fear of missing out and decreases well-being (Valkenburg 2022).
My tips:
ππΌββοΈ Recognise how social media makes YOU feel, during screen time and afterwards
ππΌββοΈ Recognise what drives you to use social media (is it coming with a positive intention or not?)
ππΌββοΈ Limit screen time to connect with yourself more
ππΌββοΈ Limit use or avoid use before bedtime to help get that quality sleep
