Sometimes, its worth remembering that going back to basics and doing the simplest things can really make such a difference to your birth.

Whether you have a vaginal or belly birth, using your breathing/relaxation techniques, adapting your environment, having the right people beside you and making decisions which feel right for you are all simple but the most effective tools you can use.

All simple tools but with maximum positve effects.

When birth planning, bear these points in mind and think about how you would apply them in different sceanarios. How you would make sure to use these tools no matter how you give birth. How would you transfer these if things changed.

We cover all of these things during my courses. For more details please get in touch 😊

✨️CTG Monitoring During Pregnancy and Labour: Benefits and Risks✨️

Cardiotocography (CTG) is a common method used during pregnancy and labour to monitor a baby’s heart rate and contractions during labour.

This is a picture of me being monitored when I was 8 months pregnant with my daughter.

I had been to a midwife appointment earlier in the day, and when they measured my bump, the measurement chart showed my bump hadn't grown to 'what it should be'

So I took my myself to the hospital and was hooked to a CTG monitor whilst waiting for my ultrasound scan.

Thankfully, all was okay, and it turned out my bump was measured wrongly during the appointment.

But in this instance, I was really grateful for the monitoring, and it was beneficial to make sure she was okay.

Like with everything, theres always benefits and risks with any form of monitoring or interventions.

Benefits include identifying early detection if baby is in distress, reassurance that baby is doing well and informed decision-making based on the readings.

Risks include false readings which could lead to unnecessary interventions. Reduced mobility during labour hindering UFO birthing positions. Increased intervention rates with no evidence of improved outcomes.

As with any form of monitoring/interventions, it's always important to ask the questions, get the facts and data, and make an informed decision that feels right for you.
This is where using B.R.A.I.N.S is a very useful tool in helping with decision making.

Did you know that babies can recognise songs they were exposed to in the womb? Incredible huh!

Research has shown that babies develop hearing during the third trimester and can form memories of music. This can last for months or even up to a year after birth.
Babies have shown a preference to these songs and have even displayed different brain activity when the song was played again after birth.

The great thing about singing or playing music to your baby is its a wonderful way to bond with your baby whilst you are pregnant 🥰
It can also provide comfort and soothe baby after they are born.

Do you have a song you played lots during pregnancy? Has your baby recognised it?

Apparently my mum played lots of ELO whilst pregnant with me. And weirdly I have always loved their songs and get a buzzy feeling from them!

Share your songs in the comments 🥰

✨️ Recent Feedback✨️

I am always so grateful when I receive lovely feedback like this 🥰

When I started out as a hypnobirthing teacher, my aim was always to create a space where mums-to-be could really enjoy a relaxation and take time out to enjoy their pregnancy, as well as meeting others and building those mum bonds and connections. Creating that village so that mums can continue their pregnancy and post-natal journey feeling supported, loved, cared for and connected.

My pregnancy relaxation sessions take place regularly in Redhill, Surrey. And myself and the lovely Sarah do regular coffee gatherings. See link in bio for upcoming dates.

If you would like more details please do get in touch 🥰

✨️ Why you may be offered an induction✨️

According to statistics in the UK, inductions are currently around 30%.

There are a number of reasons why you may be offered an induction, including the points on this slide.

Hospitals are required to follow national guidelines and local hospital protocols. Which whilst sometimes is beneficial, it is tailored for one shoe fits all rather than tailored individual care.

This is why asking asking questions and using BRAINS is so important. Asking for the benefits, risks, and alternatives. Asking for the actual risk number/percentage (and not just risk will double, double from what?).

Remember, everything has a risk factor, but it's getting those risk statistics that will help you when making your decisions.

Getting the information and evidence will help you to feel informed and help make the right choices for you.

Research all the different induction methods so you fully understand the methods being used and intervention involved. The likelihood is that once induction starts, this will involve further intervention and a higher chance of needing a c-section.

Like with all birth planning, do the research and dont be afraid to speak to others and seek further advice. There are fantastic resources out there, including
