Organ Donation Week 2025 🩷

πŸ“… 22–28 September

Every year, lives are saved thanks to organ donors - but sadly, hundreds of people across the UK won’t receive a transplant in time.

Just one donor can save or transform up to 9 lives.

Even though Wales has a deemed consent system (opt-out), it’s still really important to:
βœ… Check or update your decision (it only takes 2 minutes online)
πŸ’¬ Talk to your family so they know your wishes

Bowel cancer screening 🩺

Bowel cancer screening is a crucial step in early detection and treatment. Here's how you can get involved:

βœ… What is bowel screening?

Free NHS test kit sent to individuals aged 50–74 every two years

Detects hidden blood in stool samples, which can indicate early signs of bowel cancer

Early detection increases the chance of successful treatment

πŸ“¦ To complete the test, collect a small stool sample at home using the provided kit and return the sample in the prepaid envelope.

Results are typically available within two weeks.

πŸ“ž Need assistance?
Call the Bowel Screening Wales helpline at 0800 294 3370 for support or information or contact your GP practice.

Find more information here: https://www.healthymerthyr.co.uk/our-blog/bowel-cancer-screening/

Whether your child is starting school for the first time or heading into a new year, the transition back to term time can be a lot - for both children and parents/guardians.

Here are a few ways help with the transition:

πŸ•’ Routine reset: Gradually bring bedtimes and wake-up times back in line with the school schedule.

🧠 Talk it through: Check in about how they’re feeling. New starts can bring up excitement, nerves, or both.
πŸ’‰ Vaccination check: Make sure your child’s vaccinations are up to date. If you’re unsure, contact your GP.

πŸ₯ͺ Healthy lunches & snacks: Aim for a mix of energy-boosting foods and make water the go-to drink.
