Teesside Hospice

Teesside Hospice We’re changing lives across Teesside by supporting people and families with terminal illnesses. We’re bringing people together.

Everybody gets treated as an individual, whether it’s physical, mental or emotional support they need from us. We support people to stay as independent as possible, for as long as possible. From patients, family and friends to our clinical team, counsellors, staff, volunteers and our fundraisers. We make sure that everyone gets to live well until the very end.

Our annual Treecycle campaign has returned! 🎄

We all love a real tree until the time comes to dispose of it after Christmas. Instead of having all those Christmas tree needles in the back of your car, why not contribute to supporting Teesside Hospice to raise over £45,000 for those living with a terminal illness in Teesside 💜

In our 2025 campaign, our team of staff and volunteers saved 2,254,000kg in CO2 emissions from a total of 2,254 Christmas Trees across Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar and Cleveland. This year, we are aspiring to collect 3,000 Christmas Trees from households. But we can’t do it without the public, and we need your help!

By making a donation through registering your tree by midnight on Sunday 4th January 2026, we will collect it between 8-11 January 2026.

So how does it work? Our friendly team of Christmas elves will collect your tree from your home, and will take care of your tree in the most environmentally responsible way, meaning you don’t need to make a trip to the tip or spend time vacuuming needles out of your car. If we cannot see your tree, we will leave a calling card to let you know we visited 🏠

All Christmas trees will be chipped and recycled, reducing carbon emissions. The collection is run entirely by our wonderful volunteers and covers Teesside postcodes from TS1 to TS29, as well as DL6 - DL7.

Register your tree and help us make our Tree Cycle campaign a huge success today👇

For many, Christmas is a time for reflection and keeping loved ones who are no longer with us in mind.

And as part of our Light Up A Life campaign, we’re asking people to make a dedication to remember their friends and family, and in turn, help our amazing team be there for people who are at the end of their lives this Christmas.

Here’s how you can make a dedication to those you’ve loved…
✨ Visit our partners Visufund and view our Light Up A Life tree at https://loom.ly/EBRxeP0
✨ Select your star or light
✨ Write your dedication and leave a photo in memory of your loved one
✨ Make your donation to Teesside Hospice
✨ See your loved ones’ dedication shine on our tree and come along to one of our Light Up A Life services – at Teesside Hospice on December 14th and St Barnabas Church on December 12th

Let’s light up Teesside with memories of our loved ones – thank you for your support.

A huge thank you to B&Q Stockton for choosing Teesside Hospice as their local charity to receive £1,000 worth of products and for completely transforming the entrance to our hospice!

The team have worked so hard to dig out and redesign our front garden, creating a cottage-style space filled with bulbs, perennial plants, evergreens, and solar-powered lights 🌸

They’ve also added a modern section with decorative stones, a beautiful sleeper archway, and a new feature area in front of our hospice logo, making our entrance more welcoming than ever for our patients, families, and visitors.

Thank you to the team at B&Q for donating your resources and time to to our hospice, it looks absolutely beautiful and we appreciate all of your support! 💜

This Remembrance Sunday, we pause to honour and remember the courage of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country 💜

We at Teesside Hospice are all familiar with the courage it takes for those to live with grief, loss, and trauma - you are not alone.

Lest we forget those who gave their lives for our freedom, and let us continue to support those who need comfort in the face of loss.

After staying on our In-Patient Unit for support with her pain and symptoms, patient Kat now sees Teesside Hospice as a second home – even decking out her room with Christmas decorations, as she would have done if she was in her own house!

Before she was discharged, Kat and her mum Mandy kindly shared their experience with us…

Kat said: “Coming here has just been an absolute miracle for me. When the word hospice is mentioned, it’s a fright. But now – no, I’m happy to come back. It’s like another family here. They are one in a million and I know that I can go to my resting place and when I’ve gone, I’ve gone where I wanted to be. I’ll be happier.”

Mandy added: “I can’t praise the team enough. The nurses, the cleaners, everybody that works within this unit – they’ve just got time for you. And as sad as it is being in here, we’ve met some really lovely friends. I feel like I’ve gone home with a wide and huge family.”

Thank you, Kat and Mandy, for sharing such beautiful words with us. 💜 To read the full story, visit our website: https://loom.ly/zN9CTtc.

"Many of you will know, for those who don't, we lost our lovely dad to cancer in April last year, it's been the absolute hardest year. Unfortunately dad isn't the only one we have lost in our family, there have been many taken by cancer but we came to realise through dad's care at the very end just how special Teesside Hospice are and the difference him being in there at the end made to us as a family.

They let us stay with him to the very end which meant we could stay as a whole family for as long as possible. Without them, a difficult situation would have been so much worse. We couldn't think of a better charity to raise money for because of the amazing care they give to their patients and families. We are forever grateful."

That's why Kerri decided to take on the Boxing Day Dip last year in support of Teesside Hospice, what will your reason be? 💜

Sign up for just £10 today and join Team Teesside in blowing away the Christmas cobwebs this boxing day, because your helping families just like Kerri this Christmas ✨

Hug in a Mug 🤗☕

A massive thank you to the Whinney Banks Primary School kids for gifting us their Hug in a Mug project as part of Big Kids Boro Cereal recently! It all started with Lucas, who shared that his lovely grandma was in our hospice 💜 because of this, they supported us with this project and we couldn't be more grateful!

Each mug was filled with lots of goodies from hot chocolate and biscuits to tea bags and bookmarks and they have gone down a real treat to those staying in our hospice!

The kids also did a great presentation on the day to our nurses and staff to present the mugs to us and proudly tell their story about the project and why they chose to support us, and it was truly a fantastic day.

Thank you again, Whinney Banks Students, your support has gone such a long way! ✨

It’s ! 💜

The time of year when we celebrate the amazing contribution made by our trustees and recognise the difference they make.

We’re lucky to be supported by a wonderful board of Trustees, who provide expert guidance and steer to our operations, ensuring we can reach our goals and grow to support even more patients and families.

Thank you for the time, commitment, and effort you bring to Teesside Hospice, we appreciate everything you do, and today is all about you!

Every little helps! 💫

We just wanted to say a massive thank you to Tesco for selecting us as one of their charities this year for their Stronger Starts campaign! 🌟

So how does it work?

Tesco has selected our children's bereavement support services as one of the projects you can vote for while you shop, then, the project that gets the highest votes will receive up to £1500 in donations. This is an incredible opportunity and we would be so grateful if you voted for us so that we can continue to support children and young people through grief. It can be an overwhelming journey, and our free bereavement counselling service exists so that no one has to face it alone.

Any proceeds to support this cause are much appreciated, it doesn't just mean the world to us, but it also massively supports those who need our help, thank you! 💜

We’d like to say thank you and good luck to one of our wonderful volunteers Amy, as she embarks on a new career in the NHS! 🌟 We caught up with Amy to find out how volunteering at the hospice has helped build skills for this new role…

“Volunteering at Teesside Hospice has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The hospice has such a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. From day one, I felt valued and part of the team. Whether you’re looking to build skills for your career, give back to the community, or just do something meaningful, there’s a place for you here.

For me, volunteering was a stepping stone into healthcare administration, and it gave me the confidence, experience, and support I needed to move into a paid NHS role. But beyond the career benefits, it’s just a genuinely special place.

Teesside Hospice didn’t just help me grow, it helped me believe in myself.”
