Teesside Hospice

Teesside Hospice We’re changing lives across Teesside by supporting people and families with terminal illnesses. We’re bringing people together.

Everybody gets treated as an individual, whether it’s physical, mental or emotional support they need from us. We support people to stay as independent as possible, for as long as possible. From patients, family and friends to our clinical team, counsellors, staff, volunteers and our fundraisers. We make sure that everyone gets to live well until the very end.

Thank you to Galley Hill Primary School and the Parvin family for raising over £1,724 for Teesside Hospice in their Rudolph Run! ✨

One of our In-Patients, Lee Parvin, passed away last year after his brave battle with cancer. Before his death, he gave his son, Thomas, a challenge to organise a Rudolph Run at his school before Christmas. Thomas took on the challenge, and with the help of his school they managed to organise three races - one for Nursery and Reception, one for Key Stage One, and one for Key Stage Two.

After delivering antlers and noses to each class, Thomas gave a special announcement at the start of the first two races: "Reindeers Ready? Ready, steady, go!!!" 🦌

He then took part in the third race himself, as well as keeping track of how many laps the children completed by stamping their running cards with little Rudolf noses and giving a countdown to finish running.

Everyone had a great time, and Thomas gave a small speech at the end thanking everyone for taking part in honour of his dad, the older children even came up to Thomas to give him high fives and fist pumps of thanks for organising the event.

They managed to raise an amazing total of £1724, which was over double of Thomas' target! The school shared:

"Thomas's mum, Jennifer also set a personal goal to raise money for the hospice that would equate to the cost she believed Lee's care was during his time at the hospice. She set a goal of £20,000 with the amount raised by school her total has now surpassed this and is currently at £21,184. The Parvin family are a true inspiration and as a school we are proud of them all."

A massive thank you to Thomas and the Parvin family, and Galley Hill Primary for all their support - it truly means the world to us 💜

We’re still buzzing from the weekend! 🍻

Our very first collaboration for the 12th Guisborough Beer Festival was a massive success! We want to say a huge thank you to Guisborough Football Club and the Guisborough & Great Ayton Rotary for partnering with us to make this happen.

Over 500 of you joined us across Friday and Saturday to sample 18 different beers, all in support of Teesside Hospice. We were especially proud to debut our own craft beer, 'Heart of Gold', brewed in partnership with Guisborough Brewery 💜

The Results are in:

Total Raised: A staggering £10,813.50!

Beer of the Festival: Number 13, ‘Oregon Trail’ by Elusive Brewery (a delicious 5.8% IPA).

A huge shoutout to our supporters and volunteers: East Durham Engineering Company, Guisborough Brewery, Saltburn Beer Festival, Three Brothers, Talking Tides, Guisborough Book Shop, Jake Mason, and every single volunteer who gave their time.

We couldn't have done this without you, and we hope that you all enjoyed the festival just as much as we did - Thank you!

From all of us here at Teesside Hospice, we want to say a massive thank you to Anna Turley for completing her year of fundraising for us as her charity of choice for 2025 💜

She raised an incredible £2500 from doing various challenges and fundraising events over the past year and we could not be more grateful - her support will go such a long way in supporting us.

Anna's fantastic donation can fund over 40 hours of specialist nursing in our IPU, delivering compassionate, person-centred care!

Thank you so much for all of your continued support Anna! ✨

We're shining a spotlight on Debbie and her memorial donation she has made to the Hospice in honour of her auntie and uncle, Pat and Jimmy 💜

Pat was admitted to the Hospice in November last year, followed by her husband Jimmy who was also admitted on New Year's Eve, sadly passing away three days later.

Debbie shared "Everybody at the hospice was like a family. The day auntie Pat came in, the chef gave her a lovely piece of quiche which was her last meal, she had massages, her room was filled with lovely music, candles, hearts on her pillows, and as a nurse myself it was just so lovely to see those little touches.”

Debbie’s husband also shared: “The staff were just so, so nice. I remember coming in with Pat and one of the doctors sat with us for an hour, and spoke with us about Pat’s life story. You could tell she was genuinely interested in getting to know her and our family, and I haven’t forgotten that. When Jimmy passed away, one of the other doctors went into the room with us and she was genuinely upset - it’s not just a job to them, you can tell they care.”

Debbie shared: “I wouldn’t have been able to get through this time without Dr Deane. He sat with me, put an arm around me, and was here all the time for us. He helped me personally, and was there at that time when I was crumbling and needed him most.

We wish we were giving thousands instead of hundreds, but anything we can do to support the hospice in the future, we will do it.”

It was Pat's final wish to have a memorial collection donated to support Teesside Hospice, and we would like to thank Debbie and her family for supporting us at such a difficult time 💜

Did you know, according to Celebration Day research, 27% of people find it hard to talk about death with family or friends?

It's not an easy topic, but if we don't discuss death it can be even harder when we experience it - that's why we want to get Teesside talking with our first Dying Matters Conference this May.

Everyone is welcome as we come together to provide useful advice, information and a space to chat openly, with stalls and breakout sessions from:
🌟David Knowles Funeral Service
🌟 Macks Solicitors
🌟 Celebrant Jen Parvin
🌟 Cygnet Law
🌟 NHS Organ Donation team
🌟 Our Teesside Hospice Bereavement, Wellbeing and Lymphoedema teams
🌟 And more
