Ronnie has just returned home from receiving palliative care at Teesside Hospice, where he has been staying for the past two weeks for symptom management and specialist support 💜
Ronnie lives with several complex health conditions, including a brain tumour, insulin-dependent diabetes, chronic COPD and advanced nerve damage. When his health deteriorated, he came to the hospice for person-centred care to help manage his symptoms.
After spending time here, Ronnie says the care he’s received has made a huge difference:
“My opinion of this place is second to none, the staff, the facilities, the way they look after me. They’re so caring and polite, you really can’t fault them. They can’t do enough for you… they’ll miss me when I go home, I keep them entertained!
After two weeks I’m feeling a lot better. I’ve still got a long way to go, but the treatment I’ve had since I’ve been in has really benefited me. I feel safe here. When you’re not well you tend to worry, but being here gives me peace of mind.
When you hear the word hospice, especially for people like us in our generation, you think instantly ‘oh my god, it’s just a place to die’… but it’s so much more than that.
It’s good vibes man!”
Ronnie’s wife Margaret has been by his side throughout his stay, sleeping over at the hospice so they can be together. She shared with us: “As soon as you hit those automatic doors at reception, they’re there to greet you. It’s absolutely fantastic here.
Because I’m Ronnie’s carer, I’ve been offered complimentary therapies like Indian head massages and they’re absolutely fantastic. They said I’ve got to be cared for just as much as Ronnie. From the reception staff to the cleaners, they’re all so lovely. We’re looked after 24/7 and there’s nothing to worry about at all when you come here.”
Your support helps people like Ronnie and Margaret receive the care, comfort and reassurance they need when it matters most 💜
