A huge thank you to Sarah, her family, friends, colleagues and students at Northfield School and Sports College, who have helped to raise an incredible £4,000 to support our hospitals.

The money has been equally shared between oncology departments across South Tees and North Tees and Hartlepool hospitals, to benefit cancer patients.

Sarah has been on a huge fundraising journey after sadly seeing many of her family members affected by cancer.

From bingo, to a stall at the Northfield Summer Fair, a fundraising event and even a hair-raising skydive with her uncle. Sarah has gone above and beyond to give back.

Her colleagues at Northfield School and Sports College were amazingly supportive too and have raised over £1,000 through raffle tickets and sponsorships, running around to make sure she had everything she needed, and cheering her on every step of the way.

Special thanks also goes to Sarah’s mum and cousins Lyn and Sue, who have been by her side from start to finish and helping to organise it all.

Sarah even hosted a special thank you night to celebrate everyone who supported her. The perfect ending to her fantastic fundraising journey.

Our thanks once again to you Sarah, and to everyone who has supported you along the way 💙

We would like to say huge thank you to Sean Alderson, who raised an incredible £2,583.22 for the Motor Neurone Disease Fund at Our Hospitals Charity!

Sean took on a six-and-a-half-mile pub walk with a twist — carrying his own 63kg keg the entire way to raise awareness and vital funds for local people living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a cause that means a great deal to him.

He was joined by a few friends and his son Travis, 20, who carried water and collection buckets to support his dad every step of the way.

Funds raised will help provide important support for MND patients, including access to complementary therapies that can improve quality of life.

Your creativity, strength and heart are truly inspiring, Sean — thank you for making such a meaningful difference! 👏💪 💜

A heartfelt thank you to Sharon Spensley and her sister Linda for their incredibly generous donation of £4,134 in memory of their much-loved dad, James. 💜

This donation will directly support patients at the Chemotherapy Unit at James Cook and The Sir Robert Ogden Centre at the Friarage Hospital, helping provide those extras that go beyond standard NHS care.

Funds were raised during a fantastic fundraising evening at The Street Head Inn, featuring a marquee, live music, a DJ, and raffles. A huge shoutout to landlord Nigel, Sharon, and Linda for organising such a special event—and to everyone who donated or attended. Your support truly makes a difference. 🫶

Thanks to funding from Our Hospitals Charity, we were pleased to see the positive impact on our patients who had a chance to try the new RITA tablet in ward 11, which is an interactive tool aimed at patients with memory impairments.

RITA stands for Reminiscence/Rehabilitation and Interactive Therapy Activities and is an all-in-one touch screen system offering digital reminiscence therapy.

A relatively new tool in the fields of nursing and healthcare, the tablet helps blend entertainment with therapy.

Patients experiencing memory loss or impairment in recalling and sharing events from their past are able to reconnect and engage with aspects of their life.

This includes listening to music, watching news reports, playing games, taking part in karaoke and watching films, to name a few.

Dementia lead nurse Anna Wilson said: "This amazing piece of kit will help patients to enjoy a range of activities from games, singing, films and reminiscence material to chair-based exercises - assisting patients to stay more active during their hospital stay.

"The RITA tablet has even been found to reduce the number of falls in other hospitals where it has been used.

"Although it based in ward 11, the mobile tablet can be used across all wards in James Cook Hospital."

South Tees Hospitals Charity

Donations given to the South Tees Hospitals Charity are used to enhance patient care over and above the core services and facilities which are funded by the government.

Public donations are used for a wide-range of purposes and the role of the charity is not to replace NHS funding but to help provide those little extras over and above what the NHS can provide.

We have big ambitions to make a difference to the experience of patients who need to be cared for in the trust’s hospitals and community services.

This is only possible with your support!
