An increasing number of children are receiving the diagnosis of Developmental Delay, often in cases where there is no obvious cause for the child's developmental difficulties as all clinical and medical investigations, such as brain scans and chromosome tests, have been unable to identify a known condition. Children with this diagnosis are often behind their peer level in some or all areas of development and may also have difficulties with varying muscle tone and multi-sensory impairments.

When kids act out, push back, or fall apart, it’s not defiance. It’s a signal.
A signal that something feels too big, too hard, or too overwhelming.

Instead of jumping straight to consequences, try this:
💬 “That was a big reaction — are you okay?”
💬 “Looks like something’s feeling tricky right now.”

This doesn’t mean we excuse the behaviour.
It means we meet the need behind it — and guide them from there.
Because connection is what builds cooperation. 💛

Mum of 3 disabled children. Disabled husband and myself. And my disabled mother. The amount of fighting for us for help, support that's just as a carer. Then there's the fight for support and help as a disabled person. To even have help, support in order to get the basic care, help, support we need was/is a complete awful process. It's either none existent due to cuts to services. Or immensely complicated for us to even get the help. It can take being broken to even get help!! And I'm sure the fight she had even to get carers in the first place. Was fought with difficulty. More needs to be put in place with easier applications and support as everything and I mean everything is an absolute fight!!! Or just none existent!!! More help respite for carers/ parents as caring for a disabled children is on a whole other level!! Especially with your own health needs. There needs to be sufficient/better support system for mental health and wellbeing for carers!! There's nothing but fighting for systems and services, cuts. When your mental health declines as a carer. Where's the help?? It takes being broken and an immeasurable toll. On mental health. Being beyond broken. To get yourself help or for help to be given. It shouldn't be this way!

A rapid review of child safeguarding practice has been ordered following the death of a mother and daughter.
