Lets talk about D.......

☀️Did you know that Vitamin D is actually a hormone rather than than a vitamin?

☀️Vitamin D is required to absorb calcium from the gut into the bloodstream which is vital to good bone health

☀️Vitamin D is mostly produced in the skin in response to sunlight (only 10% is obtainable through food)

☀️Not only does a lack of Vitamin D lead to bone, teeth and muscle deformities, without adequate Vitamin D our immune systems cannot work as efficiently which can lead to illnesses and autoimmune diseases.

☀️Vitamin D plays a role in regulating mood and decreasing the risk of depression

☀️At this time of year it is virtually impossible to get adequate amounts of Vitamin D from the sun. I suggest taking a supplement to ensure you are topped up. I personally recommend and use Better You Vitamin D spray (this is not an AD). Easy to administer and as it is a spray it goes directly into the bloodstream.

"In 2016, I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome/ Diverticulitis. No conventional therapies seemed to be helping me. I happened to meet Barbara at a wedding and mentioned my situation to her.

She put together a nutritional support system tailored to my specific needs. I followed the plan and found great relief. It is now 4 years and I am still enjoying a much improved lifestyle."

Although there's currently no cure for IBS/IBD, with nutritional therapy we can work together to find ways to relieve your symptoms and prevent them returning.

Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens bones to the point where they break easily. Most often, bones in the hip, backbone (spine), and wrist.

Osteoporosis is called a “silent disease” because you may not notice any changes until a bone breaks. All the while, though, your bones had been losing strength for many years.

There are things you should do at any age to prevent weakened bones. Eating foods that are rich in calcium and vitamin D is important. So is regular weight-bearing exercise, such as weight training, walking, hiking, jogging, climbing stairs, tennis, and dancing.

If you'd like to discuss how to make diet and lifestyle changes to help with your Osteoporosis, please feel free to contact me.

Your body needs a small amount of sodium to work properly, but too much sodium can be bad for your health. Diets higher in sodium are associated with an increased risk of developing high blood pressure, which is a major cause of stroke and heart disease.

Despite what many people think, most dietary sodium (over 70%) comes from eating packaged and prepared foods, not from table salt added to food when cooking or eating.

So, use the Nutrition Facts label to compare products, and don’t forget to check the serving size in order to make an accurate comparison.

Or, choose fresh meat, poultry, and seafood, rather than processed varieties and prepare your own food when you can, and limit packaged sauces, mixes, and “instant” products (including flavoured rice, instant noodles, and ready-made pasta).

Because athletes’ bodies face a high level of stress, proper nutrition is incredibly important. The most effective way to achieve proper nutrition is also the most basic - focus on the five main food groups:

🍏 Fruits
🥕 Vegetables
🥩 Protein
🌾 Grains
🧀 Dairy

Each contributes vital nutrients to your diet. Once these principle habits have been established, a registered nutritionist, like myself, can help you fine-tune your diet based on individual needs.

There's nothing to fear!

A lot of clients are afraid/ashamed of their existing diet. This is normal. Eating 'treats' purely for pleasure because they taste delicious, is not a bad thing. Instead, it’s all about how much and how often you eat them.

Most of our meals should be made up of foods that nourish our bodies and keep us well, with the odd treat here and there.

I can help you get that balance right, so please feel free to get in touch.
