Pleased to let you all know that I have increased the number of days I spend in the Pulborough Clinic. Partly because the demand is there, and partly because the lovely Denise, who is in charge of Pulborough Hall, is going to allow me to keep my portable table on site. This is great news, at least,....

A tad late with this one but it's true every day! I believe animals to be sentient and as important as we are.

Equine Influenza Outbreak
Due to the current risk to equine health I can assure owners I will only being visiting 1 yard per day and all clothing will be washed and boots sterilised after the visit. The advice from the veterinary profession is that if your horse has not been vaccinated in past 6 months then your horse will likely need a booster.

- Why Your Horse Needs an Equine Osteopath -
Your horse will try to hide any restriction of its movement because horses evolved that way, they are prey animals and don’t want to appear lame to predators. Finding and treating those restrictions is the work of the equine osteopath. You may notice changes such as, failing to pick up a canter lead, refusing fences, not wanting to load in the trailer or becoming sensitive to girthing. All signs it’s time to get your horse checked. All horses have imperfections in the way they move and compensations at play. Some compensations are best left in place with a little treatment needed to keep them in check, while other compensations can lead to pain and restriction of movement which can lead to lameness or poor performance.
We ask much of our horses, in sport such as eventing or racing and they can be affected by how they are ridden, how they are cared for and by bits, bridles, saddles and a myriad of other equipment. Your osteopath will take it all into consideration in managing the best outcome for the horse.
Do your horse a favour and have him checked regularly to keep him healthy, happy and performing at his best for you.

June has been a wonderful month treating polo ponies. They are lovely to work with, lightweight frames and great manners! They are of course particularly suited to osteopathy treatment due to the demands for speed and agility throughout their polo season. They have particularly benefited from lower neck and shoulder treatments. Treatment involves working from the foot and lower leg joints up to the elbow and shoulder - we use the leg to get all these joints moving and combine it with some massage. Necks can been manipulated to mobilise the joints and relieve tension. Horses generally enjoy these treatments and will stay relaxed and calm. We help to improve the function and therefore improve the performance and help to prevent injury.
