Did someone say cheesecake? In fact, did anyone say huge, delicious cheesecake? Because that’s exactly what we were generously treated to this morning by Nikki, the landlady of The Horse and Jockey, Binegar
Having heard that our residents would be enjoying a traditional Pub Quiz this evening, Nikki wanted to help make the occasion extra special. She arrived with a magnificent lemon cheesecake with a gingernut base, lovingly made by her own fair hand and it looks every bit as incredible as it sounds.
What a wonderful and thoughtful surprise! We are so grateful for her kindness… although judging by the mischievous glint in Emma's eye, we can’t be entirely sure the cheesecake will actually make it as far as the residents!
Huge thanks to Nikki for her generosity, and community spirit! We are so looking forward to bringing our residents to you soon to enjoy your traditional country pub welcome first hand 🤩

We’re delighted to be welcoming The Midsomer Norton Silver Band to Somer Valley House on Thursday 11th December, bringing with them the timeless magic of Christmas carols. There’s something truly special about the sound of a silver band at this time of year, and we’d love for you to join us as we get into the festive spirit together.

This lovely family has always come together for a special meal each December to celebrate the festive season and this year was no different! Although personal circumstances meant that one of our wonderful residents couldn’t join her loved ones in the usual way, we were more than happy to step in and make sure nothing stood in the way of their cherished tradition.

Give us a challenge, and we’ll find you a solution. If the Christmas meet-up couldn’t happen out there, then we would bring it here! With our private garden room transformed into a cosy space just for them , complete with decorations, crackers, warm company, a fabulous atmosphere, and delicious home-cooked food , the celebration was every bit as special as ever.

At Somer Valley House, no one needs to miss out on the traditions that matter most. We will always do our very best to keep meaningful routines alive, creating moments of joy for our residents and their families.

Today, we’re sending the warmest, happiest birthday wishes to a truly wonderful lady, the one and only Zilda! Known for her love of a good proper coffee, a competitive game of Scrabble, and a lively chat, she brings joy and sparkle to every day.

To make the occasion even sweeter, our brilliant kitchen assistant Karen surprised fabulous Zilda with a freshly baked celebration cake, lovingly made for everyone to share.

Here at Somer Valley House, we pride ourselves on truly listening to our residents, learning about the hobbies, traditions, and special moments that have brought them joy throughout their lives, and finding meaningful ways to bring those experiences to them.

Recently, several residents shared that they missed the simple pleasure of browsing for Christmas gifts for their loved ones. For many, joining local festive shopping trips isn’t always possible, so we wanted to find a way to bring the magic of the season directly to them.

That’s how our Pop-Up Shop was born.

We were thrilled to partner with Glass Garden Studio who provided stock of a stunning collection of handcrafted, locally made glass treasures, from Christmas cards and tree ornaments to jewellery, coasters, and beautiful statement pieces. Watching our residents browse, chat, choose gifts, and enjoy the festive sparkle created the most warm and joyful atmosphere.

And it felt too special not to share.

So, we would love to open our doors and invite our local community to join us. If you’d enjoy a browse through our Pop-Up Shop, please feel welcome to visit Somer Valley House next week. After you’ve had a look around, we’d be delighted to offer you complimentary refreshments, tea, coffee, and cakeas a small thank-you for popping in.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Ryan from UK Home Tints and his wonderful little apprentice,Xavien to Somer Valley House to install privacy tints on our ground-floor windows.

These high-quality tints not only enhance privacy for our residents but also contribute to their wellbeing by blocking 99% of harmful UV rays. We are proud to continue improving the sustainability of Somer Valley House, and this installation supports our commitment to creating an environmentally responsible and energy-efficient home.

The new tints offer:
• Daytime privacy
• 80% solar rejection, helping to keep rooms cooler
• Dark Privacy 80, which can reduce winter heat loss through glass by up to 20%

Yesterday was an unforgettable day overflowing with joy and celebration for the future as Somer Valley House officially rebranded into The Crystal Care Collection! ✨

The air was alive with excitement , the extraordinarily talented jazz performer Henry Sampson Jazz Services filled the room with soulful classics, lifting everyone’s spirits and wrapping the celebration in pure musical magic. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, he surprised us with a sprinkle of festive Christmas favourites!

There was dancing, toasting, bubbles fizzing, bottle tops popping and a whole symphony of celebration! 🥂✨ And of course, the incredible Laura in the kitchen outdid herself with an array of mouth watering canapés that truly elevated the occasion.

It was a day filled with smiles, music, gratitude, and a shared excitement for all the wonderful things ahead for The Crystal Care Collection. Here’s to cherished memories, and a sparkling future! 🎉💙✨

Wow! just wow! What an incredible day. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to every single person who contributed in any way to the Somer Valley Houses Christmas Fayre yesterday. Whether you generously donated raffle prizes, volunteered your time, ran one of the fantastic craft stalls, attended the event, or filled the room with festive joy as part of The Robinettes choir, your involvement made all the difference.
This was our most successful event at Somer Valley Houses to date, and we are truly humbled by the support of each individual and organisation who helped bring it to life. Your kindness, enthusiasm, and community spirit shone through in every moment.
