A day of learning, laughter and lots of ideas to bring home!

On Friday, our Director Mags and fellow SaLT Jane headed to London for the ASTLIP “Therapy Talks” conference and came back full of inspiration (and a lot to chat about on the journey home!) 💛

Highlights included hearing Sarah Stone speak about motivation and exploring evidence-based practice with Amit Kulkarni from the RCSLT — lots of interesting ideas to reflect on here.

It was also really special to spend time with familiar faces, including Behaviour Analyst Bethan Mair Williams and ASTLIP’s Member Engagement Director Laura Whitall, who Mags has worked with over the years 🤝

Days like this are a reminder of how important it is to keep learning, sharing ideas and growing together. This is how we can continue to offer the very best support to the children and families we work with 🌱

Did you know it’s Swallowing Awareness Day?

Many people are surprised to learn that eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties, known as 'dysphagia' can affect children too.

In fact, around *1 in 36 children under the age of 5 may experience swallowing difficulties.

Signs can include:
💧 coughing or choking when eating or drinking
🍽 food getting stuck or difficulty chewing
🗣 changes in voice quality after swallowing
👄 difficulty controlling food or drink in the mouth

Speech and language therapists play an important role in helping children with dysphagia by:
🧠 assessing feeding and swallowing
🥄 supporting safer mealtimes
👨‍👩‍👧 guiding families with strategies and feeding approaches

If you ever have concerns about your child’s eating, drinking or swallowing, support is available and early advice can make a real difference.

💛 Help is here if you have any concerns.

Worried about waiting? We get it...

Waiting rooms can sometimes be the hardest part of a visit... especially if your child has lots of energy, big feelings or finds new environments overwhelming 💛

That’s why we’ve designed our space a little differently.

At The Nest, our waiting area has been thoughtfully created so children can:
🎨 Draw, colour and explore creative materials
🧸 Play with toys while they settle in
👣 Move around freely, with plenty of space to wiggle and wander
😌 Feel calm, comfortable and welcomed before their session begins

Because therapy starts long before you step into the therapy room.

Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference ✨

As we wrap up our Valentine’s weekend of appreciation, we couldn’t finish without celebrating the spaces that help us do what we do best ✨

Dayanara, one of our Occupational Therapists, shared:

“There is so much to love about the new clinic, including the private pods, the observation rooms and the large kitchen for preparing food for feeding sessions. I am particularly excited about the sensory area and motor gym.”

This clinic isn’t just bigger.
It’s built around the needs of the children and families we support...Today and into the future.

And that’s exactly why 'The Nest' has our hearts.

💘 Another reason why we LOVE 'The Nest'

Some of the magic is in the details. The ones that make you pause, smile and notice something new each day 💛

Vicky, our Speech and Language therapist shared:

“I adore the artwork on our murals — every time I look, I see another detail. I also can’t wait to see some frogs in our pond!”

From beautiful, thoughtful design to the natural spaces around us, 'The Nest' gives us a setting that sparks curiosity, calm and joy... for both children and adults 🌿🎨

Another reason this place has well and truly captured our hearts 💕

💘 More reasons why we LOVE 'The Nest'...

One of the things we value most is the people we work alongside and the way collaboration is part of everyday life here.

As Clodagh, one of our Speech and Language Therapists, shares:

“I love being surrounded by other therapists who are always happy to bounce ideas, offer support and work together.”

Working as a truly multi-disciplinary team means children and families benefit from shared thinking, joined-up care and therapists who feel supported to do their best work 🌱

Another reason Mildenhall has our hearts... and there’s more to come! 💕

💘 Reasons why we LOVE 'The Nest'

It’s the little details that make a big difference, especially for the children and families we support every day.

As Rylee, one of our Occupational Therapists, says:

“I love our sensory colour-changing lights and how there’s always a bright face at reception to greet everyone!”

From calming sensory features to a friendly hello the moment you walk through the door, we believe feeling safe, welcome and comfortable matters just as much as the therapy itself 💛

Another reason The Nest has our hearts... and we’re not done sharing yet 💕

💘 Reasons why we LOVE 'The Nest' at Mildenhall

This Valentine’s weekend, we’re sharing a little love for the new place we’re proud to call home.

Our Director Mags puts it perfectly:

“I love the open space, the community feel and how we can now help even more people.”

'The Nest' gives us room to grow, space to breathe and the opportunity to support children families, and individuals in a way that feels truly connected and community-led 🌱

This is just the first of many reasons why this building has our hearts — keep an eye out all weekend as we share more 💕

📰 Did you spot this alarming BBC headline today?

More and more children are starting school with limited speech and language skills and the impact is real.

At Two Can Talk, we talk a lot about early intervention — because we see the difference it makes every day.

Early assessment means:
🧠 Support during the most important stage of brain development
💬 Tools for families to help at home
🌱 A stronger foundation for school, friendships and confidence

If you’re ever unsure whether your child’s communication is “on track” it’s always OK to ask. We have a free milestone checklist available to help you understand if you may need more support. Just comment and we will do the rest.

🎨 Finishing touches… quite literally!

Watching the amazing Helen from Creative Imagination Studios hand-place our final vinyl decals was a special moment — the kind of detail that brings 'The Nest' to life✨

Every part of this space has been carefully considered; from therapy rooms to sensory-friendly lighting, wall wording to layout flow. And now, as the last little touches go up, it’s starting to feel truly ours 💛

This isn’t just a building — it’s a space built around care, connection and creativity.

And we can’t wait to welcome you in.

❄️ Snow day = Speech Day!

If the snow has brought excitement (and a bit of chaos!) to your morning, you’re not alone. But it’s also a brilliant chance to boost your child’s language skills through simple play and real-life experiences...

Here are a few snowy ways to grow speech at home or outside:

☃️ Talk while you build – “Roll the snow,” “Big ball,” “Let’s make a nose!”
🧊 Explore texture – “Cold!” “Wet!” “Soft?” “Hard?” “It’s melting!”
🎯 Practice action words – “Throw,” “Catch,” “Push,” “Slide”
🗣️ Use sound play – “Brrr!” “Uh-oh!” “Crunch!” “Wheee!”

Snowy moments help children:
🧠 Build vocabulary
🗣️ Understand and use action words
👂 Tune into sounds and sensory experiences
❤️ Talk and play in meaningful ways

✨ So pop on the wellies and make the most of this frosty opportunity!
