๐โจ Honouring Samhain โ The Celtic New Year โจ๐
As the wheel of the year turns once more, we arrive at Samhain (pronounced Sow-in) โ the ancient Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. Traditionally celebrated from October 31st to November 1st, Samhain is often called the Celtic New Year, a sacred time when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest.
Itโs a moment to honour our ancestors, reflect on the cycles of life and death, and prepare for the deep rest of winter. Just as nature slows down, we too are invited to pause, to listen inwardly, and to release what no longer serves us. ๐ฌ๏ธ๐
๐ฅ Ways to Celebrate Samhain
Samhain can be honoured in both simple and meaningful ways โ whether through quiet reflection or intentional ritual:
๐พ Light a Candle for Your Ancestors
Place a candle in your window or on your altar to guide and welcome the spirits of your loved ones. Spend a few moments remembering those who came before you โ share a story, a photograph, or offer a few words of gratitude.
๐ Build a Samhain Altar
Creating an altar helps to anchor your energy and intention. You might include:
โข Autumn leaves, acorns, pinecones, or berries โ symbols of natureโs abundance and the turning of the seasons
โข Photographs or heirlooms of ancestors or loved ones who have passed
โข Amethyst, obsidian, or smoky quartz โ for grounding and spiritual connection
โข Candles โ black for protection, orange for creativity, purple for intuition
โข Seasonal offerings such as apples, nuts, or pumpkin
โข Incense or herbs โ mugwort, rosemary, or sage for cleansing and clarity
๐ฏ๏ธ As you arrange your altar, focus on gratitude, remembrance, and renewal.
๐ Reflection & Release
Samhain invites us to release old energies and patterns. You might write down what you wish to let go of from the past year and safely burn the paper, allowing the smoke to carry your intentions away.
You can also use this time for meditation, tarot, or divination, as intuition is heightened when the veil is thin. Trust the insights that come through.
๐ Rest, Remember, Reconnect
Samhain is a time for stillness โ a sacred pause before the new cycle begins. Honour the mystery, tend your inner light, and know that in every ending there is also a beginning. ๐
Blessed Samhain to all who celebrate.
May your path be lit with wisdom, love, and peace. ๐ฏ๏ธ๐๐ซ
