When babies have space on the floor, they can follow their own curiosity... pushing with their legs, turning their heads, reaching out, and gradually discovering what their bodies can do. These movements are how babies learn about themselves, their environment, and the people around them.
A safe floor space, with an attentive adult nearby, supports both confidence and connection. When a baby knows someone is close (watching, responding, and ready to step in if needed) they feel more able to explore. They can move away, check back in with a glance or a sound, and return again. This back-and-forth builds trust.
