Established in 1908 by Samuel Sheldon, we have served the local area for over a century as an independent, family-run company of funeral directors. A great many aspects of funerals have changed over our many years in business however the traditions of integrity and compassion, as laid down by our forebears, remain exactly the same. We operate a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year personal service which starts as soon as contact is made by yourself, whether by telephone or by calling in to our office. At a time to suit you, your funeral director will discuss all the options available in order to ensure that you are completely satisfied with the proposed funeral arrangements. We will take care of all the necessary paperwork, laising with doctors, ministers, caterers and florists so that you are relieved of the burden of making these arrangements yourself at what is a difficult time. We are also proud to offer Golden Charter funeral plans. Sheldon (Funeral Services) Ltd is an appointed representative of Golden Charter Limited trading as Golden Charter Funeral Plans which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN:965279). On 10th December, peacefully in Millom Hospital, Alice aged 90 years of Race Grove, The Green, beloved wife of the late Richard, loving mother of Lesley, a very dear sister, aunt, great-aunt, great-great aunt and friend to so many. We’re pleased to announce the return of Light a Candle this Christmas!

Taking part in this Christmas’s Light a Candle gives you the opportunity to create online memorials throughout the festive period.

Christmas is a special time to celebrate with family and friends, and our virtual candles are a thoughtful way to pay tribute to loved ones who are no longer with us.

We'll be sharing virtual candles on our page between 15 and 21 December. There's no cost for you or your family to get involved and create an online memorial.
