‘How was your summer?’
I’m wondering how many times you’ve been asked that question this week and how honest, detailed and full your answer has been.
Whatever words you may use in response to the question- for example ‘It was …. ‘great’ ‘fine’, ‘long’, ‘lovely’, ‘hard’, ‘quick’, ‘busy’, ‘quiet’, ‘full’, ‘exhausting’, ‘refreshing ‘… I wonder what thoughts and feelings you might have that remain unsaid for you.
Maybe you’re feeling a need to emotionally ‘decompress’ after a summer with the family; maybe the juggle of work and home life throughout the summer has been hard and has brought up all kinds of thoughts and feelings that you’d like to explore; perhaps the return to work post-hols has highlighted areas of your life that you’d like to evaluate or change… Maybe you’re feeling a sense of new beginnings but you’re not sure what those ‘new beginnings’ look like or how you want them to be…
Talking these things through with someone outside of your family/friendship groups can offer you the freedom to express these thoughts and feelings without judgement, enabling you to process, and really understand, what is going on for you.
As we enjoy the last days of summer sun and a new chapter of the year is upon us, maybe it’s a good time to focus on you, to reflect and to talk and connect with someone in a safe space- someone who is there solely to listen to YOU.
