I am a father to a very intelligent and active young boy, and this quote perfectly sums up what I try to teach him every day: be kind.
Be kind to yourself, be kind to others, be kind to animals.
I believe that if we raise our children to be kind, we create the opportunity for them to grow up in a kinder world.
Of all the many valuable lessons we can teach our children, this is one of my favourites.

I am so proud of the team at enferm. who have come together to support healthcare professionals during breast cancer awareness month. Through a collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support Foundation, they have come together as a community to show our care and appreciation for healthcare workers, and highlight the importance of early detection and self care.

My family, just like many others, has been touched by a cancer diagnosis, but despite the fear and uncertainty, I also remain hopeful.
I believe in the incredible progress that can take place when research organisations, the private sector and individuals come together. I find this potential deeply inspiring.
I believe a cure for cancer will be found, and until then, I continue to live in hope and gratitude for the efforts of the people working in this space.

I do hope that all that I accomplish in my time is of value to those whose lives I touch. And more importantly, that the work we do at enferm is fruitful and valuable to the healthcare community and our clients.

Mental health statistics are reaching unprecedented levels across the world. The added pressure of caring for patients, while already working under trying conditions, is negatively affecting healthcare professionals. Our concern is taking care of those who look after us, and so at enferm, we are doing everything we can to address the issues that lead to stress and burnout.

Mental health issues have reached unprecedented levels this year and I think it is fair to say we are in a time of crisis – not just in the UK – but globally. The escalating numbers of people struggling with mental issues in our post-Covid society is sad and upsetting to say the least.

I recently had the honour of being a judge on the 2022 Startup of the Year awards. It was truly inspiring to witness and acknowledge the talent, drive, tenacity and efforts of the startups involved in the 2022 programme. I also find myself astounded, motivated and fiercely proud of the creativity and potential of the UK startup community.

This past month we have spoken openly and candidly about mental health, su***de, burn-out etc. Together we have discovered some ways to cope with the stresses that life brings us, and even tried a few of those recommendations out. I know we will not solve such an important and challenging issue in healthcare overnight, but I do believe that we can help our healthcare workers better by supporting them and acknowledging their challenges. It is our responsibility to address these challenges in the work we do and we take that very seriously at enferm. As do I personally.

UK National Health System recommends that wellbeing is improved by ‘connecting with other people’. So I’m taking a moment to connect with you today and to say thank you for your support in my journey as an entrepreneur, as a father and as a human being.

Please feel free to give a shout out to someone you want to connect with and thank today. The world could do with a bit of positivity I think.

Mindfulness Update: As promised, I’m reporting back on my progress to be more ‘mindful’ this week.

Result: This really works! With a hectic work schedule as well as being a single dad, I really had to work hard to incorporate mindfulness into my day, but found that some meditation everyday has made such a difference.

In all honesty, I did not feel very ‘mindful’ all of the time, but when I felt the pressure rising, simply remembering that I was trying to be more mindful seemed to help. I would call that a win! Did you try being more mindful this week? How did you feel?
