I had a deeply transformative CranioSacral Therapy session with a young man, Jimmy. As I tuned into his body, I sensed a part of his heart that felt hardened—less flowing, restricted in its natural rhythm. The tissue around it was swollen with tension, as if frozen in a moment of shock.
From my intuition, I felt his heart was holding a deep grief, as though it was quietly echoing the fear of a heart attack. I gently asked if he had ever witnessed a loved one experience a heart attack. He nodded, sharing that his father suffered one two years ago—and he was there to witness it. After this, he said, was also when he felt a deep connection with his father’s love like never before. He went on to say that his paternal grandfather also had a heart attack.
I invited him to speak directly to his father, and even to his ancestors—to express the love, the sorrow, the grief. To feel it all, not just hold it in. I shared with him and his heart:
“There are thousands of ways to have a place for someone in your heart. You do not need to carry their illness or pain to keep them with you.”
It’s not uncommon for us to unconsciously re-enact the experiences of those we love—through illness, body patterns, behaviours, or even the way we eat, walk, talk or smile—as a way to stay connected, to honour them, or to grieve as if they are present in us. But when this happens without awareness, it can pass trauma across generations.
In this session, with care and presence, Jimmy gently released stored trauma and began making a conscious choice—to remember his father with love, not suffering.
This is the power of awareness. This is healing. 💗
