I just LOVE this company! I went to Peru with them in 2007 to climb Machu Picchu and we had THE most amazing time! It was far better than I could ever have imagined. We did a unique trek through the Andes that took us to remote villages and meant we walked with the local people rather than with lots of other tourists. Anyway if you like a challenge and want to support a charity I highly recommend them. :D

Green Breakfast: Start getting your 5-a-day first thing! Read in a supermarket newspaper that breakfast cereals are being rapidly replaced by fresh & green alternatives (green smoothies, spinach and eggs, salads) as the preferred breakfast choice in the UK.
That seems like a good thing to me. I still remember how breakfast cereals would get stuck in my sons' teeth when they were little and took a lot of brushing to get them clean. Same for adults too, of course :D
Linking this new, social media led trend (fuelled apparently by 'fresh and healthy' bloggers) to the ongoing promotion of the Mediterranean diet as being healthiest, brings me to comment on the healthy breakfasts I used to have in Turkey when I lived there, and especially with my then in-laws. We would always sit down to fresh tomatoes, cucumber and olives every breakfast, usually served with some form of cheese, boiled eggs, and loads of fresh PARSLEY! ... and daily baked bread.
Yes, parsley was a common nibble with our mediterranean breakfasts - lots of goodness there and grows so easily in UK climate - no excuse not to have some growing in the back garden or patio.

August Bank Holiday weekend: If you haven't got any plans why not do something creative? It could be a project you have been putting off or something you have kept for a rainy day. It could be something totally new! Accessing our creativity activates different parts of the brain and can bring with it the feel good factor which can raise your spirits and decrease your stress levels.
There are so many ways to unleash your creativity and here are just a few: making a photo collage to hang on the wall; creating your own doodle then colouring it in; changing your furniture around to create a different feel to a room; Make some origami; writing a poem; sewing multi-coloured buttons onto a cardigan to give it a fresh look;
You could also play some music, or sip your favourite cuppa, so that you truly enjoy the time and process of getting creative. When you are being creative you are often more engaged in the moment and the activity of what you are doing and creating rather than thinking about other things, which is quality down time for the brain!
Be sure to choose something that'll fit into the time and commitments you have already, otherwise you may find you get more stressed!

Just been reading a Good Housekeeping article about the new 'Generation Ageless' talking about how women from 45-65 are no longer sitting knitting or having perms, but are instead out doing new things, taking new classes and creating a vibrant lifestyle for themselves: vivacious, ambitious and sociable! They suggest that we 'do away with' the term "Middle aged' for it no longer represents the women we are. Would you agree?

I think this may also apply to men of the same age and I know a few who fit the bill quite well! My cousin recently cycled from Lisbon, Portugal to Santiago in Spain! Way to go, Michael!

My recent adventure? As a birthday present to myself, I undertook an adventure to make a high stool for my kitchen, having not found the style I was looking for in the shops and online. I bought into the EXPERIENCE, rather than just the product. I spent 3 whole days in the woods, working with natural materials, breathing in the sounds and smells of nature (no manure, thank goodness!) and enjoying meeting new people. At times it was a challenge but thanks to the expertise of the teacher within 3 days I had crafted my own kitchen high stool. Thank you, Peter! http://www.greenwooddays.co.uk/

Remember with all the activity comes the need to practise self care, and take time out to rest and relax both the body and the mind.
