1st Stony Stratford Scout Group

1st Stony Stratford Scout Group 'I want a new generation to learn the skills, friendship and belonging I felt when I needed them most. Scouts is all about fun, challenges and adventure.

I want to show that the outdoors is a place for all of us to be at our best, that Scouts is truly open to all.’ Dwayne Fields, Chief Scout We are the UK's biggest mixed youth organisation. We change lives by offering 6- to 25-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities. Scouts helps children and young adults reach their full potential. Scouts develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world. What do Scouts do? Scouts take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing. As a Scout you can learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming, or even how to fly a plane. There’s something for every young person. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world. What do volunteers do? This everyday adventure is possible thanks to our adult volunteers, who support Scouts in a wide range of roles from working directly with young people, to helping manage a Group, to being a charity Trustee. We help volunteers get the most out of their experiences at Scouts by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship. Our award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouts as young people. Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, while respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.

Dear Parents, Members, and Volunteers,

On behalf of everyone at Stony Scout Group, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all who attended and supported our Remembrance Day parade. Your presence helped create a respectful and memorable tribute, and it was truly inspiring to see our community come together to honour those who have served.

A very special thank you goes to our Marshalls, who ensured the parade ran safely and smoothly—particularly Richard, whose excellent coordination made everything run seamlessly; our Kitchen Team, who kept everyone refreshed and energised; and our Young People, who represented the group with pride, discipline, and enthusiasm. Each of you played an essential role in making the day such a success, and you should all be very proud.

We would also like to give heartfelt thanks to our Leadership Team for their hard work in organising the parade and ensuring everything ran smoothly. A special mention goes to Debbie, whose efforts in shopping and decorating the hall truly made the space welcoming and added a wonderful personal touch to the event.

We were also delighted to receive the following message from Revd Amanda, which we wanted to share:

"Dear Jason,
I wanted to thank you for your leadership with the Scouts this afternoon. Their attendance (and the other uniformed groups) was greatly appreciated and significant. They showed great respect for the occasion, so please thank them, and also the young Scout who read the Kohima words.
With all good wishes,
Revd Amanda"

Events like these highlight the strength, commitment, and spirit of our Scout family. Whether you attended, volunteered, or supported behind the scenes, your contribution matters and helps keep our community vibrant and engaged.

Thank you once again for your support, and we look forward to sharing many more successful events with you in the future.

Great news! Stony Stratford in Bloom was awarded Gold in the National Finals of the Britain in Bloom Competition at the Awards Ceremony in Brighton today! We also got a special award for the Heritage orchard at the North end of the town, which has been Ray's particular passion. We didn't win - and we didn't expect to win - but we're over-the-moon at getting Gold at the National Level.
Stony in Bloom volunteers have worked tirelessly this year - and also other groups in the town, such as the Business Association, with their lovely hanging baskets, and Hazel Wallis's church gardens have contributed to our success - as well as the volunteers at the York house Community Gardens and the It's Your Neighbourhood groups in Fullers Slade, Galley Hill, The Rowans and the North end Pond and Wildlife Area. And then there's the support from the Town Council and MKC Environmental Waste Department, and Millstream and Axiom and Allan, the Business Association waterer. And all the residents who keep their fronts looking good. And the residents who look after the Memorial Gardens, and the Claremont Community Garden and the Limes Community Garden and school children, Brownies, Cubs, Rainbows and Beavers... It's a great big community success! We're feeling pretty happy and proud tonight! Posted by Judy
