Did you know? Today is National Stress Awareness Day! 💙
Recognising physical signs of stress is important in helping to recover from it.
When we face a stressful situation, the body produces stress hormones. These hormones then trigger a response, fight or flight, as well as activating our immune system, to help us deal with dangerous situations. Sometimes this response is helpful, it can help us push beyond our ‘normal’ capabilities.
However too much stress, too often can cause negative effects, leaving us overwhelmed, and long-term affecting our physical and mental health.
Whether you’re a carer, customer, or loved one - remember to pause, breathe, and find small moments of calm.
A walk, a song, or simply sharing how you feel can make all the difference. Learn more on our website!

🌟 CARER OF THE MONTH ⭐️ Well done to Christine! Christine is relatively new to the team in Northampton & Daventry but is proving to be a real team player, she is always very helpful and often works outside of her availability. She gets on well with all those she works with and those of whom she supports. Enjoy your voucher Christine and keep up the amazing work from all of us within the office & your fellow carers. xx

Small changes can make a big difference 💙

People living with dementia may experience the world differently due to damage in the brain. This can lead to changes in perception, including:

Misperceptions – seeing one thing as something else (e.g. mistaking a shadow for a spider)
Misidentifications – confusing people or objects (e.g. thinking a son is their husband)
Hallucinations & Delusions – seeing or believing things that aren’t there
Time-shifting – mixing up past and present.

These experiences can be confusing or distressing for the person and those around them. But with understanding and support, you can help them feel safe and confident.

As explained by our @‌DementiaFriends team, something as simple as swapping a dark coloured mat – which could be mistaken for a hole in the ground – to a light coloured one could be helpful for a person living with dementia.

There are lots of little things you can do to support a person experiencing changes in perception, which might look like:

- Making sure glasses are worn and hearing aids are working (if used)

- Not moving furniture, or changing where things are kept

- Not drawing attention to their mistakes

- Improving lighting levels and reducing visual clutter

- Asking friends and relatives to introduce themselves when they arrive

- Describing the food and drink and where it is on the table

Take a moment to breathe… in the forest this October. 🍂
Forest bathing, or Shinrin-yoku, isn’t just a walk in the woods, it’s a way to reconnect with nature and yourself. Surrounded by the brilliant autumn colours, spending time among the trees can:
• Reduce stress and anxiety 💆‍♀️
• Boost mood and mental clarity 😊
• Lower blood pressure and heart rate ❤️
• Strengthen immune function 🌿
Even a short stroll amid the golden, red, and amber leaves can leave you feeling calmer, more focused, and revitalised. 🌳

Our Story

For many people the questions about care don’t arise until, suddenly, there is a need and most of us think that there is a stark choice between living self sufficiently, without care or going to a residential home. However Bluebird Care has a solution which allows our customers to live full, interesting lives and still stay within the comfort of their own home and with the safety and peace of mind of their own front door.

Our office opened in Newport Pagnell in early 2012 and we have grown over the years to become an established and highly recommended provider of home care across the Milton Keynes area. Our philosophy is to provide the care to our customers that we would want for our own family members and our dedicated team of care assistants are passionate about providing the highest quality of care and keeping all our customers safe, secure and happy in their own homes. Care at home normally involves one or more visits a day for relatively short periods, possibly up to an hour, to provide not just personal care but also to help with the everyday tasks of life such as cooking, shopping, and visiting relatives. However the service does not stop there as longer visits are available as well, including overnight or even live-in care as a realistic alternative to a residential placement. We can provide care for any adult who needs our help; people who have learning disabilities, short term respite, post-operative support and, of course, care for older people – all are able to receive specialist and professional care.

Please visit our website www.bluebirdcare.co.uk/milton-keynes for more information or call us on 01908 299032 for a no obligation discussion of how we might be able to help.
