Not sure how much light I'm getting on a foggy morning like this, but it feels great to be up and out for half an hour before going to work! More serotonin now means more melatonin at bedtime. And I get a headstart on my steps!

So that's (almost) a wrap! The longest, darkest month of the year over and done with. If you made New Year's resolutions, have you stuck to them, or has getting through January without hibernating enough for you?
✅ increased my plant intake
✅ reduced my alcohol intake
✅ recovering well from injury
✅ ready to start half marathon training
How about you?

Don't count calories, count plants instead! By eating plenty of fibre and polyphenols you'll be keeping your microbiome happy and reducing inflammation throughout your body! There are 26 different plants in this salad bowl with sprouted mixed beans and scrambled tofu! A great start to the week 💚

I counted every plant I ate last week (including herbs and spices- they all count) and got to a total of 75! I'm not sure if I'll be able to beat that but I'm going to try! Increasing the number of plants you eat is the easiest way to improve your gut health. The next easiest way is to join our health coaching group sessions at the community centre in Old Town (Tues, Wed, Thurs to be confirmed) to make some new friends, maybe develop some better habits and get the year off to a cracking start! Message me if you're interested!
Oh yes, the sun did come out today, but you had to be up on the Moors to see it! 🙈

Hey, it's Monday morning and the start of another week where you prioritise your health. Accountability really helps with goals. I'm committing to improving on last week's step count, getting at least 2 swims in and increasing the number of plants I eat. What are you committing to?

I've had plantar faciitis for a few weeks now, which is interfering with my running. Ok, I thought, so I'll focus on my strength training and get some cycling and swimming in. Now I've sprained my wrist, my strength training is out of the window and I can't cycle!! Looks like I'll be spending the rest of January in the swimming pool! 😢

Perfect morning for a dip! Unfortunately I slipped on the slipway and sprained my wrist. Really hoping it's not broken and already wondering how I'm going to keep up my strength training!

Dr Chatterjee's new Channel 4 programme on tonight is interesting. His views on overmedication might be seen controversial by some, but great to see stories of people who have taken matters into their own hands and able to manage their type 2 diabetes, depression and chronic pain through lifestyle changes.

Can lifestyle changes replace long-term medication? Dr Rangan Chatterjee meets three Brits living with diabetes, chronic pain and depression to explore the growing evidence behind lifestyle medicine.
