Stefan's Motivation: Globally, the rate of su***de is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. Help me stop men dying too young. This is hugely important having lost friends to su***de and been invol...

Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, as part of our commitment to ‘Changing the Narrative on Su***de’, we are proud to share that Diana, Ted’s mum, will have the honour of carrying the Baton of Hope through Hereford on the 2nd October.

The Baton of Hope was created by two fathers after losing their own sons to su***de. Inspired by the Olympic torch, the baton is carried by bereaved families and su***de survivors through 20 towns and cities across the UK. It stands as a powerful symbol of remembrance, hope, and change, sparking vital conversations about mental health and su***de prevention.

At Ted Senior Foundation, we believe that su***de is preventable, and that society has a duty of care to support those who are struggling. United by grief, we share a common goal: to save lives, raise awareness, and help ensure that the devastation and suffering caused by su***de is better understood.

As it’s World Su***de Prevention Day I hope you don’t mind me sharing a few things. The simple but effective picture I have posted says a lot and is worth a moment to consider if this applies to anyone you know.

I am aware of tragic events linked with friends of mine and having been part of some of those, along with my men’s mental health charity work and su***de intervention role, I felt it poignant today to spare a thought and share a few reminders for the benefit of all I hope.

On this topic, the latest statistics from 2023 say that in the UK 75% of all su***des were boys or men and Wales had the more than any other part of the UK.

Please, if you or anyone you know are having such thoughts reach out & find the bravery to seek help. There are many in the club who will provide support and have experience to help.

You never know what someone is going through.

Here’s a quick analogy that fits with the ethos promoted in this group in recent weeks too.

I can’t take credit for this:

When a torch grows dim or stops working, you don't throw it away, you change the batteries.

When a person messes up and finds themselves in a dark place, do you cast them aside? Of course not, you help them change their batteries!

Some need AA batteries. Attention & Affection;

Some need AAA. Attention, Affection & Acceptance;

Some need C. Compassion.

Some need D. Direction.,

and if they still don't seem to shine, simply sit with them quietly and share your light.

Take care all.
