Following on from yesterdays post some further ideas on how I support my ADHD. Use of colour extends from the way I work, organise things to the way I dress. I find I can have a few key items which can then be brought to life with some chunky colourful jewellery, a seasonal bag (a lot of them home made), some glittery make up, and of course some funky socks. As a visual processor I find tracking socks and caring for them much easier in the laundry to storage cycle matching colours and patterns.
I have lots of bags (see above!), I have collected a mass of trolley tokens so I have one saved on each bag. Each bag also has a shopping bag inside too so I am not caught out without a bag (mostly!). My spare keys are kept in my gym bag, with a fob so I can wear them on my wrist if I need to be hands free, my gym pass, a trolley/locker token so each activity is contained and I don’t lose my keys.
Anchoring floating tasks, a good example is remembering to take my supplements/medication. By taking them with an actimel or similar it extends the processing needed for the task, puts it into the rhythm of my day and gives me an extra visual to remember to take them when I open the fridge. The actimel is flavoured so seen as treat over a demand. All of these actions combined mean I know to take them and don’t forget if I have had them or not.
