‼️‼️‼️IMPORTANT UPDATE‼️‼️‼️‼️
The First Minister for Scotland has announced that we have now entered Phase 3 of the route map out of Coronavirus lockdown. This means that in addition to seeing patients who need urgent dental care, the NHS now allows us to see patients for routine dental care but excluding any AGPs (Aerosol Generating Procedures). An AGP is a procedure that creates an aerosol and includes anything where we would use the drill (high or slow speed handpieces) or ultrasonic scaling.
We are now allowed to have more than one Dentist working at the same time but are still limited in the number of patients we are allowed to see. We are able to see patients for non-AGPs such as check-ups, hand scaling, X-Rays, diet and hygiene advice and denture problems in addition to urgent care such as management of swelling of gums or face, dental abscess, bleeding from an extraction socket, trauma, treatment of infected socket, toothache, broken teeth, loose teeth, loose crowns or bridges. We can also see patients for some types of treatment which can only be provided on an independent or private basis such as tooth whitening, Invisalign and C-fast Orthodontics, wrinkle reducing injections, fillers, mouthguards and splints.
As you may have seen in the papers today and at the First Minister’s press briefing, dentistry is very topical! The biggest issue being that private dentists have been given the green light to carry out AGPs ( with the correct PPE and policies ) but that NHS / mixed dentists have not. We are working alongside the Dental Practice Owners group to try fight this inequality, so that all our patients can again get access to the full range of dental care they deserve.
For now, we are still operating a closed-door policy so if you need urgent care or wish to be seen for a any of the above named treatments, please contact us by telephone and we will do our best to get you an appointment as soon as possible. Entry to the building is strictly by appointment only and we abide to social distancing measures. It’s another step towards being able to provide a full range of services in future as we emerge from lockdown. Our staff and Dentists have been working hard and have done very well providing urgent dental care over the past 3 weeks during phase 2 and we thank them for that.
We also appreciate you, the patients, for your understanding and patience during this difficult time. There is nothing we would like better than to be back to normal but we must adhere to Scottish Government guidelines
Jim and Lee-Anne.
