Why do you sometimes feel achy the day after a deep tissue massage? 💆🏼♀️💆🏼
It’s something many people notice after a session — you leave feeling looser, but the next day your muscles feel a little sore.
This is actually a normal response from the body.
During treatment we work into tight muscles, trigger points and areas of restriction. Techniques like deep tissue work, stretching and soft tissue release stimulate the muscle fibres and surrounding fascia.
Your body responds in a similar way to how it does after exercise:
🧬 Tight muscle fibres start to release and reorganise
🩸 Blood flow increases to support recovery
🛠 Your nervous system begins resetting long-held tension patterns
Because of this, it’s common to feel mild soreness for 24–48 hours, especially if the muscles were very tight or it’s been a while since your last treatment.
The good news is that once this settles, most people notice they feel looser, lighter and move much more freely.
To support recovery:
✔ Stay hydrated
✔ Keep gently moving
✔ Use heat if muscles feel stiff
This soreness is usually a sign your body is adapting and resetting after treatment💚
