Northwood and Sons Funeral Directors

Northwood and Sons Funeral Directors Providing funeral services to the whole of Shropshire for five generation's.

Five generations of independent funeral directors have continually traded from the premises of Northwood and Sons. Now owned and run by Andrew and Karen Woodhouse you can be assured that from the first contact you have with Northwood and Sons, right through to the day of the funeral, and beyond, you will be dealing with the same person, allowing you the comfort of a familiar face to guide you through the difficult time a funeral can be. We are licensed members of The British Institute of Funeral Directors and members of The National Association of Funeral Directors, and strictly adhere to their new code of practice. We offer every type of funeral services, from the planning stages with our own extremely popular funeral plans that can be tailored to your exact requirements, right through to after the funeral takes place and the decision to place a memorial stone. If we can’t provide a service ourselves then we have a large network of trusted companies that we can call upon to provide everything you could want, from special vehicles through to doves and horses. Funeral plans can provide the reassurance that your loved ones will be spared much of the burden of organising a funeral at the time of need. With our funeral plans you can just simply cover to costs of the funeral, or if you prefer, plan the event in as much detail as you wish. Everyone at Northwood and Sons take an immense amount of pride in our motto ‘Your wishes always carried out in a quietly dignified manner’. We realise what an entrusted position we are placed in, with the only chance you have to provide a funeral service for your loved one. This is why the funerals we provide are not about us or our company but are about your loved one and your family’s wishes.

PLEASE BE AWARE.
We have been made aware of an article broadcast on BBC Radio 4 today. The article was about a scam, operated on Facebook. Basically friends of a deceased friend were being approached or offered the availability of viewing the funeral service online but the viewer had to pay to view the service.
We would like to make it clear that the local crematia to us, do make a charge to provide the facility to webcast a service (this charge is paid by the family of the deceased) but no charge is made to people who login to view the service.
Every service has its own secure login username and password. These details are shared with the family, who in turn share them with those who they would like to access the webcast.

Today the Shropshire Star has published an article about Jack becoming a qualified funeral director.
However, it states that Jack is the youngest qualified funeral director in the country.
To the best of our knowledge this is not the case and the Shropshire Star reporter was told this.
We believe that Jack is one of the youngest qualified funeral directors in Shropshire.
We will be contacting the reporter directly and asking for this to be corrected.

It has been a long while since we posted anything.
Our son Jack Woodhouse joined us a little over three years ago and today he has been informed that he has passed his BIFD Diploma in Funeral Services. Congratulations Jack, all your hard work and study has paid off.
Karen and I are very proud off Jack's achievements and his way of supporting the families that trust us to look after them.

Until further notice our office is closed to visitors, however we are open and available in every other way.

Northwood and Sons is prepared to safely care for families during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Northwood and Sons remains committed and prepared to safely care for the
families it serves during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

This is to protect the NHS, our staff, the community and to aid the continuation of our services over the coming weeks. We can be contacted on the telephone and via email. All funeral arrangements will be made over the telephone or via email until further notice.

Whenever possible, Northwood and Sons will continue to enable families to
participate in the rituals that are most important to them.

According to the UK Government advice at this time, there is no known risk
associated with being in the same room at a funeral with the body of someone who died of confirmed or suspected COVID-19.

However, the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and Public Heath England (PHE) guidance has impacted the size of gathering a family is able to plan. During these gatherings social distancing guidance will be adhered to.

At this time families may choose either burial or cremation.

We recognise our responsibility to protect the health of those we are privileged to serve. We will continue to guide families, as we always have, in ways they can meaningfully commemorate the life of their loved one, while adhering to the
guidance issued by the NAFD and PHE.

We all remain vigilant about cleaning our facilities and ensuring we’re all following recommended healthy habits, such as staying home when sick, washing our hands, and covering coughs and sneezes.

The NAFD, PHE and other reliable sources and agencies are regularly offering us a lot of helpful guidance about the evolution of COVID-19 in the UK and its impact on us being able to deliver our service to the community. We continue to keep up to date with and will continue to follow this guidance as it evolves.

The NAFD continues to lead the conversation with government officials about the role of funeral service as it relates to the pandemic.

If Northwood and Sons can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Can everyone please follow the UK government scientific advice about social distancing, isolation and how to cope with the COVID-19 threat.
Below is a BBC article about how our action can effect the outcome of this viral attack.
If we all individually follow the current advice we can cut the deaths caused by COVID-19 from 510,000 to 20,000 across the UK.
On average seasonal fly causes around 8,000 death a year.
So please follow government advice and make the personal sacrifices that we need to make for the greater good of our communities and country.

Scary figures have been put forward for the expected death toll - but are they quite what they seem?

There are lots of different Funeral plan products available. If you are considering a funeral plan, please make sure you speak to your local independent funeral director. This will ensure you get the correct advice and the correct product that will properly suit your needs and not a product that suits a sales person and their commission

Our new campaign helps people to understand how they can gain assurances that their money is secure and that their funeral wishes can be met.

Don't risk your assets not going where you would want them to - If you don’t leave a will, the law decides how your estate is passed on – and this might not be in line with your wishes.
