Today I received my medal and certificate for completing the Polar Bear challenge. I had to dip in cold water twice a month from November to March without wetsuit or neoprene. I did the challenge to draw attention to anxiety. Many of us suffer with anxiety whether it is an annoyance that we have to push through or completely debilitating. In solution focused hypnotherapy we see an anxiety trigger as a polar bear, something that triggers our fight/flight/freeze response. Hypnotherapy can help you to overcome your anxiety calming the nervous system and taking you out of the fear response. Working together we can build skills that will help you to take control of your life and live anxiety free. Enabling you to tame your inner polar bear!

Yesterday I graduated. I am now fully qualified as a clinical solution focused hypnotherapist and psychotherapist. We had a lovely afternoon celebrating together. I'm going to really miss everyone but luckily, we still have supervision and regular get togethers.

Splashing into December with an icy cold Polar bear dip today. The water was a bracing 6.7 degrees, but I managed to get in my 3Ps all before breakfast!
Positive action - swimming in beautiful nature
Positive interaction- meeting up with this lovely bunch of women, laughing and singing and quite a bit of shivering!
Positive Thoughts-"she believed she could do it, so she did".

I'm doing the Polar bear challenge to help raise awareness of stress and anxiety and the importance of looking after our mental health. 2 cold water dips a month between November and April, no neoprene.
In solution focused hypnotherapy we use the Polar bear as a metaphor for our stress reaction. How we react to stress is the same way our primitive ancestors would have reacted if they had bumped into a polar bear. It triggers our fight/flight/freeze response even when it doesn't need to. We can learn how to manage this response, rid ourselves of stress and anxiety and truly thrive.

last week as part of my Polar Bear Challenge, I headed to a beautiful spot in Wales. St Dyfnogs Well, a stunning little spring water fed pool where, legend has it the saint's penance was to stand in the freezing cold waters of the well! I didn't think it was that cold but maybe that's because I'm a "Yorkshire lass". I'm doing the Polar Bear Challenge to prove that we can confront our fears and overcome our anxieties. It is a great way to prove mind over matter as I dip into cold water twice a month. no neoprene allowed, from November to April. In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy we use the polar bear to signify our stress reaction. A symbol from our primitive ancestors to show how our brain responds to modern day triggers in our day to day lives. For me my trigger is generally technology, I hate it! But in our day to day lives it can't be avoided. What are some of the things that can trigger your stress reaction? Do you have any suggestions on how to overcome them? Trying to get some work done and something caught my eye, a spider running across the carpet, luckily with the cat in hot pursuit, my hero 😻
It made me think though, at this time of year spiders are often coming in to get out of the cold, which can be challenging for people suffering from arachnophobia.

Today I started the Polar Bear Challenge. I and many other crazy people are challenging ourselves to dip in a river, lake, sea or barrel twice a month from November 1st to March 31st in only a standard swimming costume, no neoprene or wetsuits in sight! Today in gale force winds my friend and I dipped in one of our favourite spots. The river was fast but I'm lucky enough to be swimming with Jess from Cold Water Magic www.instagram.com/p/CiRzaCUq8Nz/?igshid=YmMTA2M2Y= a great friend of mine. So I know the water was a bracing 9.9 degrees. I am doing this challenge because in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy we use the polar bear to represent a trigger for fear or anxiety. It helps people to understand how and why they are reacting the way they do. We have essentially the same reaction if we were to stumble across a polar bear when we are out and about as we do if we get an unexpected bill, or have an argument with someone, even if we are just feeling under additional pressure. Our anxiety goes up, we can feel hot, sweaty, heart racing, stomach churning. Stress and anxiety are all too common, but we don't need to suffer from their affects, we can learn how to manage them, so they no longer have a negative impact on our lives. I am doing the Polar Bear Challenge to show people that we can handle that polar bear in our everyday lives. We can face it and beet it, together.

Now the clocks have changed, the evenings start getting darker and it's getting colder outside, it's time to cosy up and make plans for winter. As beautiful as autumn is I think it's easy to feel a bit low as winter approaches. I love the summer and this year autumn has been spectacular in the valley, the photos I have used are all just up the road from where I live and credited to Ollie Morris who took them. I feel very privileged to live somewhere so beautiful. That being said I think we are all concerned about the coming winter and the raised cost of fuel and living. For anyone struggling at this time, for whatever reason, you don't have to struggle alone and there's always things we can do for ourselves to help. As a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, I work with people to improve their daily level of happiness, improve their mental health and create skills that are going to help support them through the best and worst times of their lives. We all need a bit of help from time to time and Hypnotherapy can be truly life changing. The 3P's are a way of boosting serotonin which supports us to feel happy, content and capable in our daily lives. It's important that we do things every day to support the production of serotonin and other beneficial neurotransmitters. Below are just a few suggestions of how you can support yourself. If you need help with low mood, anxiety, stress, depression or anything else I would love to hear from you. The initial consultation is free of charge and lasts about 60-90 minutes. If you're interested or would like to know more, please get in touch. Sessions are available in person or on zoom so distance is no obstacle. It's brand new logo day today thanks to Chris Benbow for the fantastic design, I absolutely love it! I've been very quiet whilst I've been waiting for it as I've been really busy with training and building my portfolio. This month I've been focusing on weight management (and hoping it will rub off on me 😂, one of the perks of the job). Also learning so much about OCD and realising how we can all display certain OCD traits when we are feeling stressed or anxious, busy or tired. Which goes to show just how much we could all do with a helping hand to help us cope better with the stresses and strains of life.
For the remainder of my training (only 6 weeks now, but I will honour new clients with the discount until the new year) sessions are available for a 50% student discount.
