Migraines are so much more than “just headaches.” They’re a complex neurological condition that can impact the whole body — including your hearing.

🧠 Common symptoms include:

Throbbing or pulsating head pain (often one-sided)

Sensitivity to light, sound, or smells

Nausea, dizziness, or visual disturbances

👂 Research also shows a link between migraines and sensorineural hearing loss, especially in those who experience balance-related (vestibular) migraines.
You might notice:

Ringing or fullness in your ears

Muffled hearing

Difficulty understanding speech in noisy environments

These changes may be due to inflammation or reduced blood flow affecting the auditory nerve during migraine episodes.

By addressing cranial fascial restriction, easing neck and shoulder tension, improving circulation, and calming the nervous system, manual therapy can support recovery and help reduce the frequency and intensity of migraine symptoms.

Today is microtia awareness day! Microtia means 'little ear' and is characterised by an underdeveloped outer ear (the bit you see) but is often accompanied by atresia, which affects the middle ear, causing moderate to severe hearing loss. This is my daughter ☺️ she has microtia/atresia of the left ear and I can assure you, nothing gets in her way. She is an unstoppable queen.

There is a significant link between hearing loss and headaches which I will be exploring over the next few weeks to raise awareness around headaches/migraines, TMJD and hearing loss.

Did you know that I once joined the circus? My kids only found out recently about this past life! I love to juggle and I love to poi ☺️ I took a long time out of my hobbies, but my daughter is now interested and we have been playing tonight! Getting back into the swing of things!
