What we do 🩵
The original Pilates started in the 1920s and was originally called "contrology". It consisted of 34 strengthening and mobility exercises designed to alter abnormal movements patterns and correct muscle imbalances.
In the early 2000s it was recognised that the original Pilates movements were not always suitable for everyone due to the high level of strength and control required to preform them. Two Australian physiotherapists took the 34 original movements and modified them to allow them to be taught at various levels of intensity. These modifications allow physiotherapists to teach Pilates at the level that suits the individual and allows them to progress through levels more easily.
There are lots of other types of Pilates, but physio- led Pilates has the added bonus of being taught by physiotherapists who are experts in anatomy, physiology and movement. Meaning that physio-led Pilates is suitable for ANYONE regardless of age, fitness, or even if they have an injury.
