Going purple for the 1 in 26. 💜☂️💜
Today is Purple Day—a global day dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy and clearing up the myths surrounding it
Epilepsy is more than just what you see in the movies. It’s a complex neurological condition that affects 1 in 26 people at some point in their lives. Today is about breaking the stigma, sharing the facts, and letting those living with seizures know they aren’t alone.
Facts for Purple Day:
It’s common: Over 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy.
It’s diverse: There are many types of seizures, not all involve shaking or loss of consciousness.
You can help: Knowing basic seizure first aid can save a life.
Seizure First Aid: Calm, Cushion, Call
STAY CALM and take control of the situation. Keep others away to give the person space.
CUSHION their head. Place something soft, such as a coat or cushion, under their head to prevent injury.
CALL 999 (or emergency services) if the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, if they are injured, if it is their first seizure, or if they have another seizure immediately after.
DO NOT restrain the person or try to stop their movements.
DO NOT put anything in their mouth (they cannot swallow their tongue).
TURN ON SIDE: Once the jerking stops, turn them onto their side (recovery position) to keep their airway clear.
Let’s turn our feeds purple today! ☂️ ⚛️
